% A possible man of affairs, A possible leader of men, Back of the grin that he wears. There may be the courage of ten; Lawyer or merchant or priest. Artist or singer of joy, This, when his strength is increased, Is what may become of this boy. Edgar A. Guest We the class of 1958, dedicate this yearbook THE REALMS OF GOLD to our friend and fellow classmate, Denis Blaise, whose friendliness and co “operation have made our final year in high school a richer one. He has brought to us a deeper under standing of the people of his country and of Europe. It is our hope that this bond of fellowship will help in the gaining of world wide brotherhood and peace. Page 2 Today people are much concerned with rockets, the prospect of space travel and the possibility of war on a world-wide basis, using rocket-type missies. We Americans are facing times which are quite similiar to the early settlers of this part of the country. These settlers faced the unknown wilderness with the possibility of sudden attacks. They overcame these hardships through willpower, fortitude, and intelligence because they had to come to the new world with an ideal of freedom before them, and they were willing to undergo all kinds of hardships and to expend almost superhuman effort to establish themselves and protect their ideal. Whether America will survive and preserve the ideals of democracy which we have depends upon whether our people today are willing to make the sacrifices in sweat and blood that our forefathers were willing to make. With the marvelous facilities and conveniences which we have, it is a great temptation to take the easy way. If America is to survive, the students of today must be willing to challenge themselves to do their very best in the difficult tasks in order to prepare themselves to be pioneers in the new world which lies just ahead. It is my hope that the class of 1958 will leave high school with the firm resolve to carry on the American heritage through their worthwhile efforts to improve themselves in the service of their country and mankind I would like to admonish the classes which follow that they must accept the challenge to do their best in difficult and sometimes distasteful tasks today rather than to wait until some future time. The foundation for their future and the future of America is being built by them today. Page 3 Board of Education Seated, left to right: Mr. C. J. Marino, Assistant Superintendent; Dr. Willard T. Respectfully and lawfully submitted on this glorious day of our departure. THE CLASS OF 1958 Witnessed by: D. Generate X. Omerate Page 45 Class History The class of 1958 has come a long way in this world together. We started grade school together-some of us in elementary school, some of us at South Street School and some in country schools until we were all brought together as seventh graders in Junior High School. In Junior High School, many of us joined activities such as Junior Band, Orchestra, Reflector Staff, Service Club, Dramatic Club, Library Club. In ninth grade, we elected the following class officers: Allan Carpenter, President; Martha Anderson, Vice-President; Joan Desadora, Secretary; and Carleton Stewart, Treasurer. Elected to represent our class in Student Council were Gilbert De Lucia and Mary Di Pasquale. Officers in Student Council from our class were James King, President; Allan Carpenter, Vice President; Diane Gray, Secretary; George Hannah, Treasurer. The cast for our Junior High Play included Martha Anderson, John Ryan, Jim King, Allan Carpenter and Mary Lou Hansen. Boys from our class on the Junior Varsity Basketball team were: James Simmons, Gilbert De Lucia, and Tommy Smith. Leading the cheering for these boys were Mary DiPasquale, Joan Weaver, Patty Nertney, and Jane Hosier. Our boys also participated in football and baseball. In June, we were promoted from mighty ninth graders to lowly tenth graders. It took a little time getting adjusted as sophomores, but we made it. We elected Allan Carpenter as President, James King as Vice-President, Martha Anderson as Secretary, and Kenneth Potter as Treasurer. Additional activities that were available to us this year were mixed chorus, girls chorus, and Spa staff. Some of the girls who became cheerleaders for the first time this year were Joan Desadora, and Mary Di Pasquale. Thomas Smith was chosen for the Varsity team. Mary Hansen and John Ryan represented us in Student Council. In our Junior years, we were led by Allan Carpenter, President; William Edwards. Vice-President; Carleton Stewart, Secretary; and Gilbert DeLucia as Treasurer. One of the first jobs undertaken this year was the selection of our class rings. The committee consisted of Jimmy King. Carleton Stewart, Martha Anderson. Jane Hosier, Gilbert De Lucia, and Jean Gillette. Some of the ways we earned money were by selling soda at baketball games and the sale of basketball pencils. One of the biggest tasks was our Junior Prom, which was entitled, Exotic Primitif. Page 46 Our prom was quite a success due to the fine work of Mr. Rock and the prom committee. Gail Sheft and Don Martin were chosen king and queen. The court consisted of Mary Hansen, Joan Weaver, Kathy Geren, Diane Gray, Jane Hosier, and Joan Desadora. Tapped for the National Honor Society were Jim King, Allan Carpenter, Carl Smith, John Ryan, and Mary Hansen. We were represented in Student Council by Gilbert De Lucia and Mary Hansen. So ended an active Junior year and the threshold to our Senior year. Once again we were the mighty ones, but this time the mighty Seniors’ James King was elected President of the Senior class; Allan Carpenter, Vice-President; Mary Lou Hansen, Secretary; and Bob Marshall as Treasurer. The Senior Play, Our Town” produced by Mr. Robert Trombley had a tremendous cast. The main parts were played by Jim King, Joan Desadora, Gilbert De Lucia, Martha Anderson, Allan Carpenter, Claudia Cook and John Ryan. There was also a large supporting cast. Immediately plans for a Senior Ball entitled Winter Wonderland were begun. It was held in December and Jane Hosier and Dave Dennison were chosen as king and queen of the ball. Some of the members of the Varsity club were Bob Marshall and James Simmons. Our class has lost some of its members, but also gained some--Robert Marshall, Richard Kinnal, and Francis Jaslowich. Ballston's foreign exchange student, Dennis Blaise also became a member of our Senior Class. As we go to press, we are looking forward to our Washington trip, Senior banquet, and Commencement night.
