A ,° THE BOMB 1967 Ballard Memorial High School Barlow, Kentucky Volume Fifteen oreword the Bomb staff of 1967, have tried to preserve through pictures and print the outstanding events of the past year at Ballard Memorial High School. Our lifforts will not have been in vain if we help you to relive now and in the years to come certain memorable moments, such as: the breath-taking excitement of the Bombers upsetting a rival team, the hilarious student-sponsored assemblies, the roof-raising pep rallies, or the never-to-be forgotten thrill of discovering new worlds and new ideas through thought and study. In addition to recreating, we have been busy creating. Having combined the best qualities of past yearbooks, we have tried to include some of the newer concepts in layouts, photography, cover, and copy. We were sophomores? - We elected Tim Giles class president. - Jane Allen and Patty Owsley were elected cheerleaders. - Pat Stewart and Joyce Ausenbaugh were elected officers of the Student Council. - Carolyn Terry was chosen third runner-up in the Miss Ballard Beacon contest- - Sixteen members of our class joined the A Cappella Choir. We were juniors? - Jimmy Cooper was elected class president. - Our class play, Rebel Without a Cause, was a big success. - Jane Allen, Patty Owsley, and Carolyn Terry were elected cheerleaders. - Phyllis Calvert and Larry Bass received the Dramatic awards. - Carolyn Terry was elected Miss Popularity. - The theme of our Prom was A Fairyland Romance. - Patty Owsley and Lynn Gough were chosen Prom Queen and King. - Five of our junior boys played on the Bomber squad. - Some of us bravely took the Merit Scholarship test. - Phyllis Calvert and Carolyn Terry were runners-up in the Miss Ballard Beacon contest. - Lynn Gough was elected Student Council president. CIVICS - The making of good Americans Thomas Jefferson I Miss Ballard Memorial Patty Owsley Each year an outstanding senior girl is chosen by the faculty to represent the school as Miss Ballard Memorial. The recipient of this year's award, Patty Owsley, who has been a varsity cheerleader for three years. She has held several offices in various organizations, including that of vice-president of the Student Council. As a junior, she wa£ a delegate to Girls' State and reigned as Prom Queen. The winner of this year’s honor, Danny Rudolph, has been an outstanding member of F. F. A. for four years. In addition to serving as vice president and president of his local chapter, Danny has served as Purchase Federation President. An active member of the Student Council, he was chosen as chairman of Career Day for 1967. Danny's courtesy and friendliness have won him a place in the hearts of the student body and the faculty. The winner of this honor is selected by the faculty on the basis of attitude, scholarship, and participation in school activities. By qualifying as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, Elaine Elms has brought recognition to B. M. H. S. In the entire nation, only about one-half of one percent of the graduating secondary seniors achieve this rating. Elaine has maintained an A average in every subject throughout four years of high school. Finalist The D. A. R. award, presented by the Daughters of the American Revolution through the Paducah chapter, is one the highest honors that can be bestowed on a senior girl. She represented the First District at the 47th Annual Farm Bureau Convention at Louisville. Selected on the basis of her photograph, Dolly Case, a freshman, was accepted as a contestant in the seventh annual Miss American Teenager Contest at Palisades Amusement Park, New Jersey. Judged there with teenagers throughout the United States on the basis of beauty, poise, and personality, Dolly placed as one of the first fifty contestants. Ballard Students Win Recognition In Other Fields Ann Earnest, business manager of the BOMB, placed second in the 16-17 age group of the 1966 Regional Junior Golf Tournament, sponsored by PGA-Pepsi.
