 ntKcifrcU' During the school year of 1960-61 we are facing another international crisis which is challenging our ingenuity, our energy, and our ability to think clearly. The following guideposts may help us to keep this country free as it was planned by our forefathers who met in Independence Hall. Let us remember that without individual initiative our country cannot remain free. It is the motivating force within us that creates a desire for a better way of life and at the same time permits us to develop the habits, attitudes, and skills necessary to build such a society. If we are to maintain a free society, we must as individuals be willing to pay the price of freedom. Education reaches its zenith when it assists man in this pursuit. The problem is how to teach man to want to be free, and at the same time encourage him to accept the disciplines that make this freedom possible. We must revise the philosophy of life that freedom is a right rather than a privilege; a gift rather than a quest; that someone else can make us free; that freedom is a cheap thing that costs little or nothing of ourselves.
