Text from Pages 1 - 164 of the 1960 volume:

• •; SeHE mz Joievoid The staff is proud to present to you, the students of Ballard Memorial High School, the 1960 BOMB. This year's book contains more art work, more pictures, and more pages designed to add freshness and a touch of informality. As you look through this record, may it bring to your memory the happy days you have spent at Ballard Memorial — how you worked, how you played, how you lived. We believe you will find in this annual an interesting, enjoyable account of the 1959-1960 School Year. The 1960 BOMB is yours. You made it; we have preserved it through word and picture. KAY RUSSELL DOTTY JONES Co-Editors DedfcaTf’oji To you, Mr. Lewis, who have contributed so unselfishly of your time and energy to the education of the youth of Ballard County, we, the staff, dedicate the BOMB of 1960. Your patience, your willingness to work, and your congenial personality have made you one of Ballard Memorial's bestloved teachers. We shall always remember you as one who has endeared himself to both students and associates, and we wish you continued good health and happiness in the years to come. THE STAFF 5 Sccfi uHte €cie tt Let me congratulate you, the Class of 1960. You will soon be receiving your diplomas and leaving Ballard Memorial. However, you must continue your education in some form or other because the world that you will live in has no place for untrained men and women. Even though we are fast approaching the day when there will probably be no market for the unskilled or untrained, there was never a greater challenge for those who are willing to work and to prepare themselves. The world is becoming smaller and more thickly populated with each passing day. This naturally creates more problems, more challenges, and more jobs. Do not face it with fear but with courage and determination. 6 W. F. McGARY The students of Ballard Memorial High School are fortunate in having a well-rounded and professional-minded staff of teachers dedicated to the cause of good teaching. Our physical facilities are adequate and modern.‘The atmosphere here is conducive to good sound learning. Through a varied program of extracurricular activities our graduates have had many opportunities for self-expression. With so many favorable factors in your high school environment you are indeed privileged and should continue to make noteworthy educational progress. ROBERT G. FISER w. F. HOOK C. M. PAGE 14 by Dotty Jones CLASS OF 1960 The following eighteen pages picture Ballard Memorial's largest graduating class. Four years ago when we entered as freshmen, we numbered one hundred eighty-six. Now as seniors, there are one hundred ten hopeful, aspiring candidates for those much-coveted diplomas with all the honors, rights, and privileges they signify. We like to think our record for accomplishments equals our record for size. The title Most Popular Girl has been won by a member of our class three successive years, and one of our cheerleaders was recently elected for the fourth time. Leadership ability is also much in evidence among us. Currently, we can boast of fifteen presidents of various organizations; our class president, who is serving his fourth year in that office, deserves much credit for his diligent and competent guidance. Musically talented, a number of our group have made significant contributions to the school's program. At present one of our able senior girls helps direct the A Cappella Choir. Never lacking in scholarship or salesmanship ability our class has had one member to pass the Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and others to make very high scores; we can also feel proud of our recent record for magazine sales, which totaled eighteen hundred dollars. We shall always cherish our memories of Ballard Memorial and look back on these days of study and fun as the happiest of our lives. Hoping the Class of 1960 has contributed something of permanence and worth that will make us stand out in the annals of Ballard Memorial High School, we bid our alma mater farewell.
