1956 BALLARD MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL Volume 4 THE BOMB For four years, we the students of Ballard Memorial High School, have witnessed the growth of our school as perhaps, unconsciously, have witnessed our own growth. We have experienced days that we shall never know again. For some of us, the end of the year will mark the closing of the last textbook, and to them we wish all the success and happiness that life can bring; for others, it represents the opening of a new world of continued learning; for all of us, it is the completion of a period in our lives that we shall never forget. We, the staff of THF. BOMB, for 1956, hope that you will receive as much enjoyment from this book as we have derived from preparing it for you. May each page awaken fond memories of the happy days we have spent here together. During her four years at BMHS, many students have gone to her for advice, and we have always found her willing to help us in every way. It is good to know that there is a kindred soul to whom we can confide our troubles, scholastic and otherwise. We wish to take this opportunity of expressing our thanks for her patience and understanding and her many hours of hard work. ANNUAL STAFF Congratulations to the Class of 1956! You were the first Freshman class of Ballard Memorial, and you will be the fourth to graduate at Ballard Memorial. Since you began your high school experience with the beginning of your Alma Mater, you do not have that feeling of divided loyalty and sentiment which perhaps the three preceding classes had. This distinction should give you a singular pride in both your class and in your school. I trust that Ballard Memorial has created in each of you a sentiment and a deep respect for her ideals and her traditions. For the true worth of any school depends upon the love and sentiment it creates in the graduates for its ideals and traditions. Ballard Memorial will need you after you graduate. While you were a student, she served you—now it becomes your privilege and your duty to serve her. Sincerely. W. F. McGary Dear Seniors, I wish to congratulate each of you upon reaching another im- portant milestone on the road of life. May this be only the beginning of a long series of successful periods or intervals in the life of each of you. Constantly, society demands more in the way of training and experience from its successful members. This means that attributes such as high ideals, determination, ambition and desire to achieve are becoming more essential. It is our hope that in some way your high school experiences have brought these objectives into sharper focus. I shall continue to be interested in you and to wish for your success and happiness. May the bond which comes from cooperative endeavor remain strong after you have left us. Sincerely yours. Richard L.
