Administration Strives For Change Mr. Peter Schneller - Principal Dr. Kermit Franks - Vice-Principal Mr. Schneller has innovated many successful programs in his six years as principal at Ballard. Along with the continuation of independent study and the eight period day, Mr. Schneller has helped to plan the new grading system involving passffail grading and fractional credits. Mr. Schneller's efforts in developing new and different programs have stimulated new thinking at Ballard High. Probably the biggest change at Ballard this year was that of administration. Our new vice-principal, Dr. Kermit Franks, is well qualified after having served as vice-principal at West Seattle High School for eight years. He was involved this year in a program by which administrators in the .Seattle School System transferred to gain greater knowledge of the high schools in the city. Ballard was privileged to be one of nine high schools in the United States to take part in an Exchange Principal Program sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Mr. John Baker, of Christchurch School in Hampshire, England, came to the United States to observe our school system, with plans for changing from their present school system to our comprehensive one. To supplement our activity fund, Mr. Baker helped organize a Walk-a-thon, the first of its kind in the United States. This took place of the annual candy sale, and it gave students and faculty a chance to show their school spirit by acquiring sponsors, walking around Greenlake, and donating the money to our activity fund. Mr. john Baker - Exchange Vice-Principal

Service Behind The Scene Maintaining a clean and well kept building for the students of Ballard High is thejob of our custodians and matron. This year under Claude Hobson, the head custodian, Ballard had two foreign exchange custodians, Mr. Einar Gislason from Iceland and Mr. Ricardo Aplacible from the Philippines. We welcomed these two men, who, along with all the others, made our school a better place in which to learn. Lunchroom duties were performed by our able cooks. Headed by Ann Derksen, Lunchroom Manager, they prepared hundreds of well balanced lunches and snacks each day. X S .. . X .ef Qs Q I X V 5 ,. 4' ke ' gf K ' .. ..t. .
