Y W Mr. Schneller, Principal To the Student Body: Once again the school year is climaxed with the publica- tion of the Shingle. Within these pages is a record of the activities of a good school year. ln it you can find the photo- graphs of yourself and make a mental record of the number of times it appears. You can find the faces of your friends and recognize them with ease. Years from now you will return for an occasional look at the T965 Shingle. Friends now close will have been forgotten. People you barely knew will have assumed greater stature. All this because time and age make great differences in each of us. I hope that the things you have been offered here at Ballard will prove valuable in the changing society you are to enter. Each skill you acquire here, or perfect while at Ballard, will be called upon at some time in your later life. When the iob changes occur, .as they will at least five times during a person's working life, you will be able to fall back upon your present training. Try to expend greater effort now as an investment in your future. 8 was um LVL! LUIJVVVQ To the Class of 1965: You are the largest graduating class in Ballard High School's history. You are also graduating from Seattle's largest high school. There is a temptation to speak to you and about you in superlatives. We could say that your future looks brighter than ever, that you will travel between planets, that you will have the most productive and abundant life in man's history. We hope all these things will come true-they can. However, in writing for an annual like this which people observe for years to come, one is obliged to consider how these remarks will look ten, twenty, or fifty years later. Whether you are headed for a productive, prosperous, and happy life depends on you. You are living in an age when your leaders have the power of life and death over all mankind. The direction the world goes depends on how you and other young people have been taught. This is why education has such a tremendous responsibility and why it is our country's most important business. Nlr. Failor, Vice-Principal
