Foreword WE THE co-editors take pride in presenting the l950 Shingle to you, the students and faculty of Ballard High School. This year's theme, 4'While We are Young, concerns the many memories that we shall always cherish as belonging to the hap- piest days of our lives-our years at Ballard High. Upon returning in September Ballardites found the old school much the same, but missed seeing several faculty mem- bers. Heading the list of absentees was Orre Nobles, well- known art instructor and Shingle art adviser, who is now en- joying a year's leave of absence. Also on leave is Agnes Ar- nold. Katherine Olsen transferred to West Seattle where she is Girls' Adviser. Carol Cornish, Lucile Conrad, and Cressie Epker resigned during the summer. Joining Ballard's staii in September were J une Gasparovich, Anita Peckham, Marjorie Perkins, Irma Tomlinson, Harry Brown, Leonidas Byers, Don Gunderson, and Herbert Sears. James Kourkoumelis took over a schedule in the social science department the second semes- ter. Another newcomer at mid-term was Anne Kitayama who replaced Mildred Fullmer in the counselor's office. We of the Shingle staff all wish to express our deepest ap- preciation to our adviser, Dorothy Quigley. Because of her endless effort and understanding guidance our work on the annual was made both enjoyable and profitable. We only hope that our work will prove to be as worthwhile to the entire student body as it has been to us. V STEPHEN DYRNES J AMES DALEN

i Y edication A SMILE, a helping hand, a clever suggestion, and an unfail- ing spirit have always been characteristic of lVlr. Elmore Oistad, our class adviser for the past three years. A variety of interests, ranging -from teaching Pacific Rini and coaching the golf team to amusing his baby daughter, still leaves him time to be a friend of every student. Because we like his youthful outlook, appreciate his co- operation, and value his interest in the younger set, we dedicate the 1950 Shingle to Mr. Oistad. ,- it , .. . ,,. ,.. . ,,.,, ,,,, ,k,.,,.
