foreword -- in the early days of september, our campus is greeted by students, both new and old. as the invasion expands and the new arrivals are guided, advised and counseled by the voices of experience, there prevails the undying curiosity of classes, professors, organizations, dorm life, and, well, just college life in general. following a brief introduction there is no alternative for a ball stater, other than to accept and challenge his position as a student. then being a student he recognizes his responsibility as a connoisseur in some area of know- ledge, whether it be teaching or non-teaching. as a retort he then becomes a part of a department and realizes that only through the ambitious and ex- hilarations of his integrity will he satisfy his ego. this allows for the defining of a department in its greatest sense through service clubs, honoraries and, exceeding all, professor-student challenge. from this point, the ball state students in 1956-'57 proceeded to mark their stride and pursue the events and activities which justifiably and signifi- cantly created for them a story far more individual, but yet not completely personal, to live on forever. however, be it great or small, there is no point for ruling out any portion of ball state teachers college throughout the 1956-'57 session. the final outcome, but still not a defined pattern, leaves you at liberty to accept or reject those lines and spaces throughout the 1956-'57 year for ball state which have in turn taken a position and, too, possessa limited element in each of your lives. sincerely, marge stahl editoral staff - business staff - art - john c. board arlene owen fran wild tom hutton kenny richardson john hood norm jones marty fletcher dianne burgess butch pippen ed burns nan raine mike lane faculty advisor - mrs. dorothy m. hartley photography - walter lueck william stokes neiswanger studio rader's studio reid's studio
