With eleven lettermen on hand to greet Coach Dick Stealy, Ball State's 1956 track prospectus looked bright. Another happy indication was the freshmen capturing the interclass track meet, so the upper classmen will have to hustle to retain their positions. These veterans were from Ball State's 1955 I.C. C. and Little State titlists. The Red Birds placed third in the Big State Meet. In the field events are Ralph Cook, Gene Pearson, Larry Wright, Dick Watkins, and Bill Black. Frank Bills, Dean Pearce, Ambrose Dulle, Gene Hany, and Jerry Shaw competed in the track events. Seniors- on the squad are FrankBills, Ralph Cook, Dean Pearce,Frank Sharkey. Although no Ball State track marks were erased, some of the graduates eclips- ed all-time records at home and away. Watkins, Shaw, Dulle, and Brown set a new one mile relay time of 3125.1 . In 1954, Chalky Wright he- aved the javelin 193' 6 5f8 . M X' , 'K an-15-'. 440 Relay Men- Watkins , Dulle , Shaw Distance Men- Bills, Hany, Pierce, Sharkey Letterrnen in the field events are: Black, Cook, Wright and Pierson.
