- - e .. -J hits The air is charged in this lab, and so is everything you manage to borrow from it. The visitor gets the sense of high voltage and smooth flowing current when he sees the boys at work under the watchful eye of Mr. Haynes. Here rigid standards are maintained. The stock- room gives business and factory training. The records are meticulously kept. Mr. Haynes is at his best when organizing something. liven his vegetable garden is the last word in planning. On the east wall is the radio section, presided over by Mr. Hills, who talks of inductance, amplification, oscillation and other mysteries with the ease of a doctor diagnosing a case. Take your radio to him and he will give you an immediate cause of its ailment. Across the hall, Mr. Quarry superin- tends the wiring of homes in a special building framework. Electricity looks after the sound system in the auditorium, and the visual educa- tion programme for the school. There is art and music in electricity. 40401. Zlec. James Anderson-Wondering. ' t 'INHB-in il it mc O ftlrmtiniled from page 255 In the senior room Q61 and junior room t24J, students may be found studying various branches of drafting, i.e., the basic principles of orthographie, oblique, isometric and perspective projection and their application to tarehitecturalj resid- ence design, also machine drawing, trans- mission of power, bearings, pulleys, gear and cam mechanisms. Others in the all-day class progress as rapidly as their individual ability permits. A visit to the busy woodworking shop shows a mult.itude of activities ranging from cabinet making to house construc- tion. Under the cheerful leadership of Mr. White, assisted by Mr. Simons, the boys are learning to make houses and contents in an expert manner. However, do not for a moment suspect. that mechanical work precludes creative effort. The drafting boys give free rein to their inventiveness in plans for bungalows and public buildings, while Page 29 woodworking boys delight in building doll houses, tie racks, and smoking stands out of odds and ends. A study of thc projects going forward in this department is convincing proof of the place to be attained by thc industrial arts in the future of Balfour. Jlameg ' cU07LfillllFll from page 362 Alternating between basement and upper floor is the sewing section. Ilerc girls learn to create a complctc ward- robe. Nced iuorc be said? Time will not permit thc rccapitulation of the rich experiences of this department. Indeed, it is dillicult to determine thc exact fields of the three teachers-Miss Allan, Miss t'ollins and Miss VVilson - for the entire organization works with a smoothness that joins staff and students in creative endeavour. Our graduates will tell you what we mean.
