It has held a peculiar yet proiitable relation toward Baldwin University from its very beginning. English literature and the Sciences were taught in Baldwin; the Modern and Ancient languages besides Philosophy and kindred studies were taught at Wallace. But the infiuences of both institutions became more far- reaching in time and a separation took place in the year nineteen hundred and eleven. In the year eighteen hundred and sixty-Iive the Theological Course was added to the list of courses already taught at German Wallace College. In the year nineteen hundred and one this course was extended and made a department of the college through the generosity of Col. H. Marting, Fannie Nast Gamble, and George Kalmbach, who founded chairs for the teaching of theology.
