.P. Seniors Dominate Academics Jimmy Josie Wonfejo monfea sale! Wm, gi Worn Wora n our campus, there was a special group of students that were results of an exclusive experimental pro- ject. These select students were the pupils in the Ad- vanced Placement Program, which was made up of forei n language, Calculus, Socir-5 Sciences, and the largest of the program, English. These classes were expanded and established in the school year 1986 - 87, and the Senior class was broken down by testing and teacher recommendation. The Senior class had the largest number of par- ticipants in the program, havinglapproximately twen- ty to t irty students in each one - period subject, However, the number fell drastically, the largest A.P. Senior class had only nine- teen pupils. These statistics, however, could be seen in many dif- ferent Ways. Many students go into the class without any idea of how dif- ficult the class is, and they figure the can just breeze by , statecflone Senior. lust because I had A's and Bis in my other classes, I figured that I could pass A.P. with no sweat. Boy, was I wrong!!! Yes, it was true what was heard about how hard the work was, but the hard work was not the issue. It was what was learned from all the extra studying, not to mention the special friendships that were formed. According to some A.P. teachers, our Seniors were ranked the best in their books. The A.P. English teacher, Mrs. Tremayne, tau ht the first class of A.P. students. When asked about her students, she replied This group re resents determination andp dedica- tion because the have achieved success thus far, and they have the desire to continue the success. The A.P. Calculus teacher, Mr. Tomei, said that his class is A pot of gold!!! This state- ment has been continuously proven as true, because the annual school level Academic Pentathlon is usually dominated by A.P. students. This special group of spirited and intelligent Seniors have forced the en- tire school to redefine them as distinguished and talented instead of nerds and geeks . The A.P.
