For these you deserve the congratula- tions of all of us-community, parents, teachers, classmates. Your laurels are well deserved. But, laurels aren't for sitting on. Undoubtedly every member of this class has put forth real effort and desire to accomplish some goal. It may have been in athletics, or music, or speech. Perhaps you were well satisfied with the results of your efforts. You may wish you could have another chance. As you move away from the rather sheltered life of a high school student into a wider arena of living you do get many opportunities to work for and to achieve goals. Society today is crying for leaders. All fields are open-education, politics, religion, business and industry. But, you need more prepara- tion. At all costs, continue your education however and wherever you can. Give us the kind of level headed leadership you young people tell us we need. New laurels will come much harder from here on. We wish you determination. Luck isn't enough and never was. Can we count on the Class of 1968? W. Robert Paynter Superintendent of Schools 132 WELL WISHES FROM MR. WEAVER To the Class of 1968: Underclassmen constitute over three-fourths of our school population. By sheer numbers, they're important, by yearly metamorphosis, they're interesting and com- mand our attention. Observe the sophomores. In September they are blurs search- ing frantically for 314, but by June they too walk up the down steps with as much nonchalance as any senior. As juniors they are adjusted to school routine but begin the search for identification to set their class apart, and by June they're trying their best, so seniors say, to begin filling the void about to be left by the graduating class. But what of the seniors? What about you? You come in September confi- dently knowing that you are prepared to uphold the traditions of Baldwin High School and excitedly anticipating a year in which to make your own mark. We, as your teachers, hope that as you recall this year you will see your mark as it is reflected in these pages. But as time blurs familiar names and scenes and as other years make hazy the sentiments of this year, you will come to know that 5'What is past is prologuef, It has prepared you to mark your future. Let your mark be bold, significant, and good. Mark your future with the use of your talents, whatever they may be, for the progress of man. Mark your future with the spirit to accomplish good and then do it. Mark your future with the imagination and vision that stretches the mind. Mark your future with the reality that accomplishments are achieved by doers. Mark your future with sympathy for your fellow man. Mark your future with time for filling your heart with joy. And to be successful in life-remember-mark your future with yourself. J. J.
