Playing an evenly matched giriie for the first half. the Eagles made misakes in the third quarter, which resulted ia 2 BEN TD's. Both teams scored in the final quarter, the Eagles' touchdown being made by fullback lim VVeaver. Our team showed high spirit which led to future victories. Bald Eagle 6 Lock Haven 19 Lacking size and reserves, the Bald Eagle football team bowed to a heavier and more experienced Lock Haven team for the Eagles' second loss of the year. A touchdown hy lim Weaver in the third quarter made the score 7 - 6 in Lock Havens favor. ln the final quarter the Eagles didnt see much of the ball as Lock Haven pushed over two more TD's for the win. Bald Eagle 6 State College 13 ln thc top gridiron game of the season, the Little Lions of State College squeaked past the Eagles with a narrow 13 - 6 score. The standout playing of Tim Gates, lim VVeaver. and Al Hastings was a big factor in this game. The outcome of the game was in doubt until late in the last quarter when the Lions. with their backs to the wall. broke loose for the de- ciding score of the game. All the action was centered in the fourth quarter when Moshannon Valley scored a TD for a 6 - 0 lead. The Eagle forces came back with a bang and scored 2 TD's in rapid succession. The blocking of Bob Haynes, the passing of Al Hastings. and the running of Tim Gates and lim T-Veaver were big factors in winn-ing the game. Bald Eagle 31 Morris Township 13 The Bald Eagle football team had two victories under its belt following its defeat of Morris Township. The brilliant running of Tiin Gates and the line-bucking of lim Weav'er accounted for the four Eagle touchdowns. Speed and deception. plus a good defense. proved to be too much for a tough Morris Township team. Bald Eagle 13 South Williamsport 14 Bald Eagle lost a heart-breaking decision to South VVilliamsport in one of the area's stormiest battles. A five-yard penalty cost the Eagles a possible tie. Bald Eagle scored after a Williamsport kick-off. but were held lvack until, with minutes to go. tackle Bob Haynes recovered a fumble and ran sexenteen yards for BE's second touchdown. Andy Berenty made a leap to catch the ball iind luggcd it for a progressive run. but the Raiders stopped both him and the team and went on to an impressive victory. Bald Eagle 19 Cameron County 6 Bald Eagle won its third game in eight starts with a fourth quarter surge of power and Crushed an early Cameron County lead. With Cameron County holding a 6 - 0 lead at half time and a see-saw battle being fought throughout the third quarter, the Eagles scored as the quarter ended and completely dominated Cameron County throughout the final quarter and made two more touchdowns. Tim Gates' running and Al Hastings' passing again were deciding factors in the contest. Bald Eagle 40 Penns Valley 0 The first Old Iron Bell game was tucked under the belt of the Eagles after defeating the Rams. The high-stepping team proved to be too tough for the Rams. This game stirred the interest of many fans and it is believed that Penns Valley will be one of the Eagles' biggest rivals in tht- .innual fight for the bell. They soared Completely off beam as they lost their next five games. Finally the mighty Eagles broke their losing streak by defeating Tyrone 50 to 38 in their first lVl::untain League competition. It was by far the best played game of the season for the Eagles. Penns Valley came back for revenge on the Eagles hardwood and. with some difficulty. giiined a -fl to 37 victory. VVhen Hollidaysburg came to the Eagles court. coach Steve Melmeck threw the 4'Deep Freezell at them: but they had too much height and walked away with a 56 to I6 win. For the Eagles' next road trip they traveled to Phillipsburg. There they played eyeii ball with the Nlounties for three periods but finally lost by the score of 60 to -18. The Eagles journeyed to Lewistown and tangled with the powerful Panthers of Lewls- iewn High. but they soon found themselves en the losing end of a 71 to 36 score, The Eagles returned home for their next two games, In the first game, they playe.l iiost to their neighborhood rival Bellefonte and fought to a -ll to 39 victory in overtime. In the next home game. the Eagles fell before a mighty Huntington team 67 to 30. Again the Eagles went on an extended road trip. beginning with Mount Union. where they lost to Captain lacks Trojans by the score of 55 to -l6. Bald Eagle then traveled to Tyrone where the Golden Eagles of Tyrone won easily by the score of 70 to 52. Finally. on February 13. the Eagles journeyed to Hollidaysburg where the league-leading Hollidaysf biirg team dumped the Eagles 75 to 27. Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School invaded the Eagles' gym and soon became in- volved in a very loosely played game. A total of 72 free throws were involved in the game. The final score stood at 54 to 38 in favor of the Nlounties of Philipsburg-Osceola. Then the ever-tough Panthers of Lewistown traveled to the Wingaite gym and won easily 5l to 35 over the smaller Eagles. On their last road trip of the year the Eagles got eff to ancther bad start, ln the second game of the year with Bellefonte they lost a heart-breaking -18 to -17 decision in a game which was decided in the last 55 seconds of the game. The Eagles fared no better at Huntington as the Huntington Bearcats swamped them 83 to 51. The last game -of the year was played on the home Court of the Eagles against the Tre- jans of Captain lack. Th: Eagles put up a tremendous battle but lost the game by the score of 5I to 47. A lack of height and a laek of experience were the two important faetors that eontrbuted to the losing season this year. Most of the hoys found the competition to he very tough and they were defeated in the preliminaries. This was the case of Tiny l-lall. our 165 pound stalwart. who was the yictinz of an unsuspeeted upset. However.
