Vliss fltlams Sa s-- wvfw sw' 3' 5' 7 Year book time is a time ol' congratulations and compli- mentary composition in which the spelling may not be correct but the superlatives leave nothing to be desired. ln this emo- tional climate, which prevents many ol Us lrom knowing the important lrom the unimportant, I would like to hold up as worthy ol' admiration ---scholarship, citizenship. and sports- manship. May l extend my congratulations to the many mem- bers ol' the classes ol Fall N545 and Spring 1957 who have A grown in the attainment of these fine wo'1ls. MISS RUTH ADAMS Dean of Girls MR. JOHN CARR Dean of Boys ,4 . I . L I , tl i ll ljfilfli UU They say it's the set of the sails and not the gales which tell us the way to govi and when to this we add the inspiring leadership ol the Finest captain ol his time, we are certain always to make port whatexer the winds, storms, or calms. XVe congratulate those Bucs who leave us now at the encl ol the voyage and hope that as you sign out, your horizons have been tremendously broadened by your experiences. X'Ve devote so much time in reading columnists' reports ol' segregation and the terrific impact on our democracy as told by people in public lile, but little do we think ol the large social conllicts and struggles which are inherent in a very large segment of our student population: and it isn't the issue ol the majority Versus an unbending authoritarian lorce- this social struggle is so much bigger and also much more complex. The social lorces which give greater concern to some than to others help a bit in identilving their nature and oliler clues in ways to deal with them: however, most ol' us will come to realize, sooner or later, that we clon't know our best and closest lriends. Our indiviclualitv is hidden away. and we will not open the window because we have so much concern ol being juclged: and we don't want to be judged. so our inside thoughts are not identified. Our students become incensed with the idea ol this being their nature when thev institute a sell-search and stride out to lllllllf'!C some im- portant and vital moral values. An alert school can give aid and comfort to this search. and 21 wholesome student can arrive with a liormula for himsell if we hrst recognize that it is immoral to remain unknown. R. H.
