The entire book could be cleyotecl to the yirtues of this man, for to him the whole school is inclebtecl. lVithout i'Coach Carl the football team, the games, and school spirit woulcl suffer. Few men have clone more for their school than the Coach has. On him rests all the responsibilities of the most exciting season of the school year, football season. For many years Mr. Mitchel has worked long and hard with his boys. for he not only expertly trains the physical body for the big games, he also gets the boys mentally ready with pep talks and comforting words. After the team has won a big game. he cheers them and praises their ellortsz if they lose, the words from this one man mean more to the boys than all the consolation from the huge crowd. The Balboa student body came eyer so near to enjoying the football championship last sea- 4 as t 3 o 5 . . . 1 is , - xr - .lf son, and then just missed. Faithful Bucs go year after year to football games in hopes of a cham- pionship, and never seem quite able to make the top. They feel let clown, but what about that one man sitting after the game in the locker room at the stadium? How does he feel? XN'hat is going through his mind? Then comes the happy expectancy of next year's new football season. Eyeryone is debating the question, lVill we make it this time, or won't we? Maybe we'll take the championship this time. the Pirates are thinking: and maybe they will. The Galleon staff hopes that, as you leaf through this issue of the yearbook, eyery football picture and ey ery rooting section photo will re- mind you, the student body of Balboa High School, of the man who is behind all this spirit and hopefulness, our coach and fai thful mentor, Coach Carl Mitchel.
