The BUSINESS EDUCATION DEPART- MENT planned courses which increased student's knowledge of commercial transactions and taught them the appli- cation of business laws. Students inter- ested in business fields also took courses in typing, bookkeeping, and stenog- fC1DhY. Courses offered by the HOME ECO- NOMICS DEPARTMENT helped students gain experience in doing tasks in home, school, cmd community life. i , Lucille Burk, Chairman Foreign Language Department Fourth year students of French asked questions of the grammatical structure of the foreign language. laeneecf to widen in te e tA. Courses offered in the FOREIGN LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT included three years of German and Latin, and four years of Spanish and French. Larger en- rollments in this department resulted from the increased entrance requirements of colleges and interest in world affairs. The aim of the department was to give the students a foundation in the basic tools: grammar, vocabulary, reading, and conversation. By teaching students the ideals and customs of other counries through foreign literature, the Foreign Language Department furthered inter- national understanding. Burr Scofield Chairm , an Harvey Brockmeyer, Chairman Mechanical Arts Department Agriculture Department The MECHANICAL ARTS DEPART- MENT introduced this year an explora- tory course designed to acquaint stu- dents with a variety' of subjects offered by the department. Students interested in these subjects were encouraged to major in Woodshop, metalshop, auto mechanics or electricity. The depart- ment also participated in the Chrysler Corporation Trouble Shooting Contest. The building of a more stable agricul- ture and the improvement of country life was the purpose of the AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT. All students majoring in agriculture trained in various fields de- signed to give them cn better knowledge of farming. The staff also encouraged students in the development of agricul- tural leadership, cooperation, and good citizenship.
