The capacity of the department Was greatly increased this year with new facilities and a larger teaching staff. The Science Department offered courses ranging from basic life sciences to advanced courses in physics and chemistry. The Science Department inifiaiad the study of frog anatomy through the Biology classes.

This year empha- sis was placed on teaching students the dangers of communism. The department continued lecture classes designed to prepare students tor college by teaching them how to take efficient notes. The DRAWING DEPARTMENT offered students interested in this field, shop and pre-engineering courses designed to pro- vide the knowledge and skills necessary to complete mechanical and architec- tural drawing majors. Because of the great demand for skilled draitsmen many courses were open to girls. The MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT conducted several types of math pro- grams to help all BHS students, placing special emphasis on students with recog- nized ability in mathematics.
