This year empha- sis was placed on teaching students the dangers of communism. The department continued lecture classes designed to prepare students tor college by teaching them how to take efficient notes. The department acquainted stu- dents With their cultural and literary heritage and provided instruction in communication skills. Interested stu- dents took specialized courses such as debate, journalism, drama, public speak- ing, and radio production. Sponsoring the Read a Classic Week, and provid- ing a large variety ot films, books, and records were important parts of the de- partments activities. The capacity of the department Was greatly increased this year with new facilities and a larger teaching staff. The Science Department offered courses ranging from basic life sciences to advanced courses in physics and chemistry. The Science Department inifiaiad the study of frog anatomy through the Biology classes.
