COUNSELOHS SECRETARIES were a great help to the busy counselors. Their duties included taking care ot attend- ance, answering the phone, taking mes- sages, and providing answers to the nu- merous questions of students. Through- out the year, they sent out registration slips and wrote oft-campus permits. The eight secretaries, serving sixteen counse- lors, met once a month to discuss meth- ods of improving efficiency Within the administration building. The GIRLS' COUNSELORS were both close friends and inspiring leaders to their students. They discussed personal and scholastic problems with each indi- vidual. The counselors provided understanding and guidance, offering their assistance to girls in choosing academic courses and extracurricular activities according to interests and capabilities. The BOYS' COUNSELORS registered their respective students, arranging their schedules according to ability, aims, and chosen vocations. Counselors ottered each individual time, interest, and experience in solving problems and kept personal records of students' activities, attendance and test scores. 'delinquent students. Bonnye Deal, DIRECTOR OF TEST- ING, planned, supervised, and admin- istered general aptitude, achievement, and vocational-interest tests. Miss Deal also gave individual tests to students having special problems. Elwood Leaplev, SUPERVISOR OF ATTENDANCE AND WELFARE, had otherduties besides watchinq over the attendance' of students. As part of his job as general. supervisor of students, he issued student parking permits, kept the campus ,free from loiterers, and assisted with the testing program. Eloise Nelson, DEAN OF GIRLS, was responsible for a special attendance file, had charge ot serious problems ol mal- adjustrnent, handled discipline problems concerning girls, and Worked with other women counselors, the faculty, and city officials. Miss Nelson's duties also in- cluded coordinating selection ot Citizen- ship Awazrd candidates, Bank ot Amer- ica Award winners, and Senior Service Awards. They dedicated themselves sin- cerely in their efforts to increase effici- ency and to be of genuine service to Bakersfield High School. SEATED: Lillian Rea, Registrar: STANDING: Helen Stover, Assistant Regnsrrarg Kay Uaie, Assistant Keglsfrar Barbara Robinson efficiently executed her duties as Secretary to t e Principal. Winona Hendon, Bookkeeper and Mable Buass, Assistant Bookkeeper. The REGISTBAFVS OFFICE recorded grades. activities, and citizenship points of BHS students, and compiled a master schedule card file. Mrs. Rea, Registrar, and her assistant, Mrs. Dale, also or- dered caps and gowns for graduating seniors. The functions of the BUSINESS OF- FICE included handling student and club finances, student store and cafeteria money, and purchase orders. This office also supervised the sale of insurance and various tickets, and cashed checks.
