'lllll CHANGING The Balcerslield High School campus was a land ol conlrasls lhis year. A visilor lo our campus was greeled by a beaulilul Adminislralion Building on one hand and piles ol conslruclion malerials on 'rhe olher. l-le would visil a classroom where boolcworlc was in progress, and oulside he would hear lhe noisy pounding of hammers and lhe hum ol machines. However, he didn r mind loo much because he loo was looking forward lo 'rhe campus ol The lulure. Then the rains came, and the delour between Girls' Gym and Ludden The boundaries of our campus extend even lo the farm on Sline Road. Hall was no longer passable. 8 Balcersfield l-ligh School campus is indeed a well-lcnown one. Many evenTs-exciTing, gala, and serious ones-have Taken place here. To some sTudenTs perhaps There is a cerTain place recalling The many noon hours when They enioyed The companionship oT Their Triends. Perhaps one cerTain spoT was a special meeTing place. Auto mechanics, homemalcing, agriculture-all these are available, and more besides. Thus the vocational student here has an ex- tremely wide variety ot career tields to choose trom. These vocational classes at B. l-l, S. not only Otter opportunity to acquire slcills which will better the individual in his tuture role as a wage earner, but they also allow the student to tind his special tield of interest and to develop it. l-le is taught to do and thinla tor himselt and to develop his sense ot independence. Each type of service is under an adminisiraior, oi whom 'rhere are nearly Twenty, some fulltime and some wiih part-lime disirici responsibiliiies. The work accomplished shows up in amazing siaristics, as, for example, the 48,000 plaie lunches served in five Disirici caieierias during January alone. ln charge of over- all adminisirafion was The Disiricf Superiniendent, while The Depuiy Superiniendent had charge of the business services and ihe Assisiant Superiniendeni the depariment oi insiruciional services.
