The President and Vice President he college community is, in many ways, a state in itself, as well as a state of mind: it has a history and goals for the future. If there is to be a hope for the realization of goals, the state must have good leaders--men possessing not only ability and training, but also experience, since it is through the medium of ex- perience that succession without disrup- tion takes place. So, it often is, as president succeeds president, that the vice presidency precedes the presidency. It was in this way that Dr. Edward Simonsen, . . .long a popular figure on campus. . .better known as Si, CRM '58j became veep in 1957 and our President the following year. This was his experience, his training, a doctorate at Cal in Berkeley. The Vice President, Mr. Burns Fin- linson, holds a B.S. and M.S. from Brigham Young, and also was affiliated with the University Afloat project. In the history of this state, then, it may be said that the succession has been peaceful, the leaders excellent, and the future hopeful, the state prospers.
