OUR DEAN OF WOMEN Daughter of a Methodist parsonage, graduate of a Methodist College graduate student at Boston and other lead1ng un1vers1t1es college professor dean of women these are gl1mpses 1nto the career of Miss ELIZABETH BENTLEY our dean of women M1ss Bentley fills the pos1 t1on as a scholar as students 1n her classes and others who come 1nto contact wrth her know She 1S also quahfied by her sympathy for women students and her expenence w1th them 1n th1s and other colleges Our dean understands the pos1t1on of the g1rls at Baker who work thelr way through s1nce she also worked her way M1ss Bentley had already been 1ntroduced to Baker folk when she came here as dean of women for she had been ass1stant professor 1n the departments of H1story and Engl1sh 1n Baker 1n 1901 1902 The followmg year she was called to the cha1r of Engl1sh 1n Srmpson College Dur1ng the t1me she was at that college MISS Bentley 1naugurated the work of the dean of women there In 1920 she returned to Baker At the t1me of M1ss Bentley s pamful acc1dent the past w1nter the esteem whlch the student body hold for her was shown 1n the deep feelmg of regret expressed everywhere and by the many letters and tokens wh1ch were showered upon her E191

MISS LILIAN SCOTT Professor Emeritus of Pedagogy In 1922 Miss LILIAN SCOTT was granted the honor of Professor Emeritus the first person to receive this honor at Baker UH1VCfS1tY This honor came to MISS Scott after more than thirty years of enthusiastic and loving service first as principal of the Normal Department and later as head of the Pedagogy Department During the years Miss Scott was a professor she was known as everybody s friend Boys as Well as girls liked to talk thmgs over with her Miss Scott continued her 1nterest in students after their graduat1on and the students themselves formed the custom of dropping 1n to see her letter Miss Scott 1S one of the chief educators of Kansas but she is loved most by Baker folk who are glad that her career here 1S cont1nued those who couldnlt come back continued the friendship by ISGS ll ll.. lIl.
