The cross country team did quite well this year, taking 1st place at Plevena, 2nd at Baker, 3rd at Huntley Project and 17th at state. Neal was voted most valuable runner by his teammates. A lot of hard work and dedication goes into making a cross country team. Congratulations on a job well done! Is it that had Neal? Nice Leap Brian! 119 STOP!!!!!! Jon Neumann, Coach Danclson, Tanya Dilworth. Front: Dan Stanton, Dave Mahon, Pat Zink, Brett Hickey, Tye Stuart, Doug Bechtold. Coach Danelson was named conference Coach of the Year for his work with the 1984-Spartans, a very young but talented team. Of the 12 players, only one had been a regular on the varsity the previous year. After a shaky 4 and 4 non-conference stint, the players' roles and goals came together and the team won 8 games en route to a first place tie with Labre. Along the way the Spartans were ranked as high as 1 Oth in the state by the sports writers’ poll- —something new for Baker basketball. For the first time in 13 years Baker fans were witness to a net cutting and trophy presentation as the Spartans won the District tournament in fine fashion. Pete Stanton, who scored his 1,000th point as a prep player late this season, was honored as MVP of both tournaments. Pat Zink and Dean Wang were named to all-tourney teams, and the other starters Jon Neumann and Dan Stanton received honor- able mention. The leadership of Pete and Pat will be missed. We wish them the best in sports next year. With nine players expected back and with some hard work this summer the Spartans should be a tough team again next season. 1 Baker 49 Terry 45 86 Forsyth 58 54 Ekalaka 30 60 Broadus 35 50 Circle 67 63 Sacred Heart 57 52 Fairview 46 47 Colstrip 42 61 Poplar 63 49 Labre 70 68 Circle 55 66 Forsyth 52 63 Poplar 64 59 Sacred Heart 32 63 Fairview 71 64 Broadus 41 57 Colstrip 66 66 Broadus 53 128 73 Labre 69 61 Colstrip 47 ck: Coach Schillinger, Kelly Wike, Kevin Wike. We had a number of players who had little or no basketba experience yet all 11 players made a positive contribution to the success of the team. We weren’t expecially blessed with a lot of raw talent, but we were blessed with a cohesiveness that was to bind this group into a team in the strictest sense of the word. Their team play, their unselfishness, their desire to excell and their industriousness were the main ingredients to their success. I truly enjoyed working with this group of young ai'iletes and wish them luck in the future. I Coach Hornung 130 Eighth Grade Team oach Welch, Ne.t Pinnow, Joe Bechtold, Rob Stanion. Coach Mahon.
