STUDENT LIFE On October 5, 1981, Richard Xavier, an escape artist, gave an assembly for our school. On the left page, in the upper left corner, Pete Stanton and Kevin Petersen tie Mr. Xavier up. On the middle picture on the right page, Paula Engesser gets in the action. Mr. Xavier escapes anyway. Another happening this fall was the Buddy Rich Concert. Buddy gave an excellent performance. The B.H.S. Jazz Band also performed the same night. On the left page the top right picture, Buddy is beating away at his drums. On the right page in the bottom left you see Buddy Rich’s saxophone section. Buddy gave a great performance. On October 31, 1981, as an activity, the Art Club demonstrated how to paint clown faces for the elementary children. Then the children went out trick or treating afterwards. On the left page on the bottom left corner, Carol Beebe is hard at work and in the right corner Kelly Mahon is busy painting. On the right page in the right, Louise Braun is enjoying herself.

THE AWESOME GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM The Baker Girls basketball team finished the 1981 season with a W-IO record. The three seniors on the team were Laurie Paula Engesser and Kim Lund. Kim Lund was the leading scorer for the year with 135 total points. Paula Engesser led the team in rebounds with 75 offensive and 133 defensive. She also led the team with 68 steals. Laurie Breitbach was' the team's second lading re bounder with71 defensive rebounds and 36 offensive. There were eight juniors on the varsity each getting a various amount ol playing time. 1 hey were Shelly Barefoot. the varsity’s second leading scorer with 102 points. She was the most consistent from the line, leading the team in free throws with 36 of 57 - over 50 percent. Karla Helfrich led the team in free throw percentage, shooting 61 percent for the year. She was 22 of 37 from the line and had 88 total points for the year. Natalie led the team in assists with 31 for the year. She also added 28 steals and 41 points. Kay Dixon was very consistent offensively and defensively for the Spartans. She had 91 points and 70 rebounds. She also shot over 50 percent from the chanty stripe and contributed 34 steals for the season. Jan Stoddard played well and helped the team in rebounding with 48 defensive rebounds and 20 offensive. Robyn Enos, Julie Bruha and Kathy McGonigal played well when called on to do so and contributed in various ways, always hustling and Irving their best. These three girls should contribute greatly to the Spartans next year. The only sophomore on the team was Traci Wade. She was a fine rebounder with 63 defensive rebounds and offensive. She also scored 74 points for the year. The Spartans lose three fine seniors but Coach Danclson has a very strong, talented squad coming back.
