Text from Pages 1 - 181 of the 1981 volume:

JUMOfl H at wisu ujli H t The Senior lIjss of 1981 dedicate our annual to Mr. Menger with fondness and respect. We would like to thank you for all you ve done for us. You ve helped us more than any other person, and for that we appreciate you. You helped us all through biology as sophomores and with the gigantic hassle of putting on the best prom Baker High School has ever had as juniors. And you helped organize all the festivities that take place in May for Seniors. You ’ve stuck with us through thick and thin, you were al- ways there telling us just how great we are. Finally, we would like to thank you for never giving up on us, even when it coyld have been easy to do. With all of this and a great big hug, we want to tell your RAM to take care because we all love youl l Class of 1981 The days all passed us by we wondered where they went. But, now it's our turn to tell how much you really meant. Remember the first day you brought us to school. And, we went through a stage when we thought we were really cool. You had to change our diapers and wipe our runny nose. But, now that's all changed as you watched us grow. We went through some bad times and have had many good. You helped us through them all like every parent should. We want to thank you parents for all you have done. This, tributes especially for you from the Class of ”81”. Class of 1981. A few classmates are working enthusiastically on the preparation of their 1991 class reunion. As we listen at the doorway a couple of former classmates are busily chatting about the resumes that have been coming in from all over .. . ' Here 's a picture of Rhonda Askin, the old wrestling manager. She just couldn 't give up managing so now she manages the Georgia championship wrestling squad with special interest in the foremost champion of the world. Baby Face Fleckenstein. I saw them on TV just last week and who do you think was still cheering them on? None other than Lynn Stoddard, the new GCW cheerleader! And do you know whose familiar voice I heard on the air singing the National Anthem? It was Barb Neumann’s! Not only does she sing but she also broadcasts the news every night on the WA TV singing news network. Hey, look at this one! Carla Barone now manufactures her own cheeseburger deluxes and fries with ranch. She wants to cater our class reunion, can you imagine burgers at a formal dinner? And right across the street from Carla’s business is Gay Brockets Teeth Cleaning Service where everyone goes to get Carla’s gooey burgers out of their teeth!” And just look at this letter — in direct competition with Carla, not more than 18 miles away from Baker, Theresa Bradoc is managing a chain of Mert’s Restaurants that reaches across the state of North Dakota!” ” Quite a few people have come back to town since college. Wayne Wilson wrote a note on his resumes it says ’Will someone please stop to get me for Senior Skip Day?' I wonder if Jeff Varner will leave his newly purchased gas station to come to the reunion. Scott Fried and Kurt Shelf really help Jeff keep his business goings Scott fills his moped up every other day and Kurt still pumps gas. Things still haven't changed a bit!” This resume says that Mark Meccage is trapping furs for Baker Hide and Fur. Do you think Patty Becker will come wearing one of her new mink coats? She started the most elite business in town and her furs are really in demand! 'Dennis Dietz will probably ride in on one of the bicycles he is always fixing at his own fix-it shop in downtown Baker. ’’ Some of the kids are still hanging around up at the High School; Kathy Stanton should make it, but after all, she is always busy, busy, busy with paperwork since she is the first woman superintendent of Baker High School! We always knew she go a long way! And I wonder if we’ll be able to drag Mary Schwan away from the coaches' office. She’s so busy making up new plays since she inherited the Baker Spartan Basketball team from her dad. The team could really use some new plays;so far their record is 0- 75. ” Even the celebrities managed to find time to answer their letters. Tina Woodsend and Mike Leach are both in Hollywood, where Tina is currently starring in a new film release as Olive Oil and Mike has the role of Lurch in the third edition of the Adams Family. Barb Owens sent us an autographed copy of her Pulitzer Prize winning book of poetry; she’s busy touring Europe on important assignments. Kenny and Mary Lutts are busy making money doing the Doublemint Gum commercial. Double Flavor, Double Fun I’ Shane Beckers is entered in the bull riding competition in the National Rodeo Finals!” Look out the window! There goes Mel Boggs, Baker Policewoman, with her siren screaming. She's always picking up delinquents and taking them to Russ Schell's Ranch for Wayward Children and Juvenile Delinquents. ”1 think Rich Schell should be stopping by anytime now; he delivers groceries when he’s not out racing his collection of Trans-Ams.” The other day I saw Debbie Wildish 's name on an auctioneer poster. She is absolutely raking in the dough! Her fast talk and loud voice can be heard all over the state! And at every auction you can see Doug Wolenetz and his goldplated cowboy boots and diamond-studded suit. He usually buys the auctions out with his millions. ” There's a lot of new businesses popping up around town. Baker even has its own toupe shop owned and operated by Kevin Tuggle; he has new hair every day! Just down the street Kevin Kovak runs Novak's Elevators, Incorporated. He’s fooling all the auditors with help from Collette Hurley, whose expert accounting abilities can never be beaten. ” The most exclusive club in town is called The Bobby Sands Diet Center. It’s owned and operated by Debbie Dockter and Patty Tronstad. ” ‘B , 26 '7 heard that Kevin Hetfrich, now known as Mr. Rich, just opened a new line of designer jeans and is expected to gross millions. He's now in the process of building a mansion at the top of Snob Hill. ’77 bet we could get all the flowers compliments of Sandy and Duny's Greenhouse, in exchange for free advertising. Sandy is becoming famous for developing a rare flower called The Markrose’.’’ And if anyone gets bored, we can buy one of Brenda Heiser’s new Electronic Laser Games; they're always fun and exciting. Marcie Celander owns Mountain View Sporting Goods in Bozeman and keeps Scott Townsend and Marie Lund supplied with new equipment for their Olympic training. Just last week Scott threw the javelin a record of 333 feet I Karen Celander has just opened a new Wedding Supply Shshe had lots of experience after working at Wedding World.” '7 really don’t think Debbie Lentz will be able to make it back. Authorities still haven't been able to locate her after she was lost in Kenya when she went over there after her senior year to serve as a missionary. A lot of people are celebrating their 10 yer anniversaries this yean Les Holman, Lawana Singer, Rhonda Hodges and Joyce Johnson. Contrary to the popular song, Joyce is letting her baby grow up to be a cowboy. The new Guiness Book of World Records has just been distributed — Rhonda Pfeifle has her name in it for the longest fingernails to date and Rick Bernier and Doreen Losing made it for the longest hand-holding record — 10 years straight! Nancy Griffith has been keeping herself busy as editor of the Willard Chronicle and in her spare time she is usually out on the campaign trail of the 1992 Presidential election. It's doubtful we 'II see Andy Wade or Kay Hoff this year because they’re on the World Pro Co-Ed Basketball Team and are currently touring Europe Navy Admiral Kyle Ramburg might not be able to join us either. He 's busy escorting Sheila Bondell, Pam Hughes and their troops to Antartica.” Look, here’s more letters from some of our celebrity classmates. Linda Christianson has just been named Miss Kawasaki, 991 and Ed Courtright is on the cover of Ranger Rick . He won the Smokey Bear award for Ranger of the Year. Mark Duneman and Forst Eichorn loved school so much that they opened up their own. They call it ’Boxboy’s College of America ’, and Shannon Granat and Debbie Grote are their best teachers. Shannon would have been our guest speaker, but she lost her voice yelling at her students. Debbie has been tutoring Jeff Wood, he’s still trying to spell the word THE!’’ Look at this picture! It’s Dan Engesserl The Ultimate Man has won Man of the Year’! Here’s a letter from Arleen Ferrell, she says she still commuting from Marmarth with Mike Brewer, who’s trying to get his son back on National Honor Society. Cheri Jacobsen is busy selling life insurance to all of Carol O'Connor’s opponents. That right punch of Carol's is wicked. ’’ Back in Nashville, Teresa Rust ad has been organizing this year’s Dolly Par ton Look-A-Like Contest. It’s always a big hit. Speaking of hits, Doug Shell and his band have a couple of love songs( the one called Traci is one of the top ten. Maybe we can get them to entertain us this year! And back here in Baker, Barb Mahon and Randy Ketterling take all of their motorcycles to Wes McLaughlin, the highest paid mechanic in town. Here come some of the teachers. They ’re still looking for those who skipped school on Senior Skip Day. Mr. Menger is now Dr. Menger; he found a new way for multiplying mice and Mrs. Curry just published her first book, How to Teach English, Without Going Insane’!” 27 Rhonda Askin-My ability to be a wrestling manager to anyone who thinks they can handle it. Seven losses were by 9points or less. Their record can no way indicate the amount of success they enjoyed as a team. The girls placed first in the Eastern B Sub-division with a 5 and I record and narrowly missed a championship berth again only to be defeated by Circle in the Semi-final game. The Spartans will lose six seniors this year: Kay Hoff. Joyce Ferret, Barb Mahon, Sandy Engesser, Kathy Stanton, and Gay Brocket I'm very proud of our Spartan Girls. They have handled themselves like champions throughout the year. They have always given 110 percent on the court. In my eyes I see twelve young ladies that have matured, drawn closer together, have weathered the bad times, have enjoyed the good and helped return girls basketball to Baker. There are several factors involved in having a win- ning team; hustle, good attitudes and team The J. V. ’$ possessed all of these necessary ingredi- ents and more. With an excellent offense and an even better de- fense, the Spartans defeated several of their oppo- nents by 15 points or more. It would be impossible to name the best or most valuable player on the team as all of the ladies contri- buted in a very big way to this successful season. The Baker Spartan basketball team had a fine season, winning twelve games and losing ten. The team was near the top of the conference standings, finishing in second place in the Southern sub-division and third in over-all standings. Only Poplar and Sacred Heart finished above the Spartans and these were the only two teams the Spartans did not defeat in conference action. The team was plagued with injuries this seasonKevin Peterson was sidelined until mid-season with a football injury. In addition, an injury to Frosty William's knee shortly before the divisional tournament and an injury to Mike Losing's ankle in the consolation game hampered the Spartan drive to a championship. Scott Townsed was again our leading scorer for the third year in a row. A senior. Scott received a number of honors, being one of the Select Five chosen at the tournament was well as being named first team All confer- ence and second team All State. Andy Wade, who captained the Spartans along with Townsend, was the team's leading rebounder and a fine co- leader. Jim O'Connor, junior, was selected by his teammates the best defensive player and the hardest worker. Sophomores Jim Stanton and Orville Madler also saw extensive action. The coaching staff was well- pleased with the season and all coaches are optimistic about next year. With all the experienced returnees, the Spartan Team will have the inside track to the conference championship in 1982 and promises to be one of the better teams in Baker High School history. The program is solid and will produce potentional champions in the next three to five years. We defended our title at the Terry tourney and finished second, at the tough Forsyth Tournament. From this point on a string of bad luck seemed to follow us everywhere we went. We ended up sending three wrestlers to state; all Seniors, Dan Engesser, Shane Beckers, and Allon Fieckenstein. Dan failed to place but had a very good year. Shane finished sixth and Allon won the state title at 16 7 lbs. Other Seniors graduating were Mark Duneman, who was just coming into his own when he was lost due to a knee injury. Russ Schell, had an undefeated year (18-0j until he was lost due to scholastic ineligibility. We. the editors, would like to take this opportuni- ty to thank some very important people. We would like to thank our advisor. Mr. Hecker for all the time, work and sleepless nights he has had over this annual. We would like to thank Mr. Dil- worth for taking pictures, and for those of you students who turned in candid pictures, they’re what makes your annual have that extra special touch. We would like to thank two people in par- ticular because without them we would really be in bad shape. Linda Meyer and Debbie Wildish are our own two famous artists who have expertly furnished us with our division pages and various artworks. I would like to thank Kay Hoff for put- ting in that extra time to put the finishing touches on our work of art. And. last but not least I would like to thank you the Student Body for being such a great group and making this annual what it is. We, have put afot of time in on this annual and we're proud of it. we hope you are too. 172
