Baker High School Baker, Montana 1 Sharon Haar umj Jim Cody Foreword Now, we will pause in the midst of war and world crisis to look back on our 1966-67 year of high school. We hope that the pictures in this year's book hold touching memories to your heart and help you remember all of the fondest days of the years gone by. As Editors of this year’s Annual, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to Mr. Bender for his many hours of working with us to make this year's Annua] a Success. Board Of Education Left to Right: Charles Madler, Rushmore Hall, Russell Culver, Tom Overton, Francis Madler, Ernest Bechtold, Edgar Justesen. NOT PICTURED: Bob Anderson, Walt Ehman, Dale Olson-School Clerk The Board of Education consists of local citizens who devote many hours of their schedule to the betterment of our schools. These men could be working for their own interests; instead, they are working hard hours for the improvement of our educational facili- ties. We thank these men for giving us their time and effort for our ed- ucation. The Dedication ■ We the Seniors of 1967, have dedicated this year's annual to Mrs. Julie Gates, who in her short year at aker, has endeared her to us by her expert guidance. Certain incidents proved her admiration for the stu- dents and this means very much to the classes. It is with great pleasure and all the luck to her in the future that we make this dedication. But it looks for and needs something besides knowledge and skills. It needs educated people who dig deeper than the easy surface answer, who suspect the invita- tion to stampeede, and whose moral and ethical fiber is strong. It needs educated people who will exercise and defend the rights and privileges on which our political system depends. It needs educated people who expect no special privilege, who would accept duly constituted law and order rather than their own conscience and who would use their knowledge and abilities to serve their fellow man. Our students have been privileged to acquire knowledge and have been challenged to think. This is a troubled world with complicated prob- lems but you have had the opportunity ot learn what has endured and what will endure. I hope you will think soundly, act wisely, and serve with dedication and humility. Administration Principal The doors of Baker High have closed behind you and you are now standing on the threshold of the adult world. It is my sincere hope that your days spent at Baker High School have, in some measure, equipped you to make the mature dec- sion necessary for a full and successful life... to choose between good and bad, truth and falshood, beautiful and ugly, what is important and what is trivial. The new frontiers in science and space will offer a challenge to some of you... for all of you there is still the challenge of keeping your country the free land your forefathers created for you. Where each can contribute towards making it a better place in which to live. Congratulations, Seniors, and best wishes for success in whatever life-occupation you choose. 6 LARRY ANDERSON Library LARRY BENDER Typing I, II Distributive Education k i kjLit n Mo .6 J HOWARD BREITBACH Vo. All members of each years French Club have to have taken French for at least one year. The new members are initiated into the club one night chosen especially for the occasion. This is done by the members who have already been initiated, who are usually picked out as a committee by the President. This initiation usually turns out to be a barrel of laughs. This year’s French Club members would like to take this chance to thank Mrs. Davis for all of her time that she has devoted to the betterment of the French Club. fc Gold Band And Stage Band Row 1: G. But still these graduated students should feel proud of getting through the first years in prepara- tion for life. In years, most of these students are only half way through with their schooling (the lessor half at that). They still have four years of High School and then on to four years of college. The ' last eight being tougher than the first. Just coming into High School, these students will now start thinking of careers. Seeing all of the vast openings is presented to them in High School. We hope that each and every graduating eighth grader will choose the right career and have a happy and pleasant four years of High School. 85 'ft Row 1: Mr. Dilworth, J. Vanderpan, O. Erlenbush, H. Baker, Montana 104 “BAKER LANDMARK DESTROYED At 3:15 p.m. Saturday, February 18, Francis Rudolph reported that fire was raging in the old high- school gym. Thirty members of our efficient Baker volunteer fire department arrived and battled the blaze in near-zero weather with a brisk north-west wind whipping the flames. The fire started in or near the gymnasium and in 30 minutes it had spread to the main part of the schoolhouse. Of the three fire trucks our fire department possesses, only one of them was in working condition during the entire fire. The orginal building, four rooms, of the old Idigh School were built in 1913. In 1916 four more rooms were added and the adjoining gymnasium was constructed in 1937. Many of us and especially our parents have fond memories of times and activites which were spent at the school and gymnasium.
