BAKER HIGH SCHOOL BAKER, MONTANA Dedication We, the Seniors of 1960, -respectfully dedicate our 1960 Spartan to Mr. Leonard Haskell who for 13 years dedicated his life to the education of Baker youth. The energy, devotion, and perseverence which characterized his teaching reflected great credit upon himself and Baker High School. His memory will remain in our hearts forever. 2 if ADMINISTRATION Qi? Z I 050 I I ..-az I swf' ,: sa ' 59- I n c'Qw9 WORDS TO LIVE BY The best place to find a helping hand is at the end of your arm Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most impor- tant You won't find many success rules that will work unless you do' The more a man finds fault, the more proof that he hasn't done anything worth while himself It is better to tell the truth and run, than to lie and get caught in the act The person who has learned to live with himself has learned to live with others A good name is seldom regained when character is gone, all is gone, and one of the richest jewels of life is lost forever L. W. l-leftie Superintendent of Baker Schools B.A., Peru State Teachers College M.A., University of Nebraska Suppose each day we were given 1,440 bright new silver dollars to do with as we pleased. We could spend them, do good with them, invest in something now which would help us in the future, or waste them, but we had to use them up each day and could not save them as such for the future. It so happens that each day we are given something just as new and even more valuable than the silver dollars . . . 1,440 minutes that have never been used before, to do with as we please. How we use these precious minutes each day determines our present and our future. Like dollars we can use them to help and bring cheer to other people, we can invest them now to pre- pare us for our future vocation, we can use them to develop strong bodies and fruitful minds, or we can fritter them away in useless pastimes. Why not make up our minds now, before another minute is gone forever, as to how we can best use this wonderful gift given us each day? We cannot save it, but how we spend it may mean the difference between impoverished minds and bodies content to drift along, or an inspired and enlightened' future not only for ourselves but for our country. BUD'S SUPER VALUE BAKER NEWSTAND 13 Class Histor In the fall of September, 1948, thirty-three little mama's darlings entered the Baker Eastside School. By the time we entered the fourth grade we had acquired several new members. The next four years were hard years but we finally made it to the eighth grade. Under the supervision of Mrs. Wheat, forty-two pupils received their diplomas. We started our first year in high school with forty-seven students. Our sponsor for that year was Mr. Charles Hayes. The freshmen who turned out for sports were--Larry Rustad, Wayne Rustad, Jim Price, Walter Graf, Larry Greenlee, Jim Sliper, Brad Bruggeman, and Lloyd Sinclair. Several of our members partook in some one -act plays that were put on with the sophomores. In the fall of 1957 we were ready to come back to the high school and show those little freshmen who the big wheels were. We elected James Mack as our class sponsor. Three one-act plays were also produced this year with the freshmen. As juniors we were getting more privileges and more studies. Our first duty was to order our class rings. Our junior play, One Mad Night, directed by Mrs. Powell, was a huge success, along with our Junior Prom which was given in honor of the graduating seniors. Our theme was Mardi C-ras, with every color imaginable plus confetti and streamers. Our Basketball team did wonderful this year. We took first in the Class B, Eastern Division. Those participating from our class were--Jim Price, Bob Schweigert, Don Fried, Lloyd Sinclair, Brad Bruggeman, Walter Graf, and Bob Jafek. Football season found seven seniors on the team. Those being Jim Price, Lloyd Sinclair, Brad Bruggeman, Don Fried, Eddie Randash, Larry Rustad and Bob Jafek. Jim Price was awarded all conference both his junior and senior years. Throughout our 4 years, our float for Football Day has taken first prize 3 years in succession. Our Basketball season was led to a second place conference standing by Bob Jafek, Brad Bruggeman, Jim Price, Lloyd Sinclair, Bob Schweigert, and Don Fried who helped Baker to get a 2nd place in the tourney. Our co-cap- tains were Don Fried and Bob Schweigert, The senior play Down to Earth was a smash. It was directed by Howard Breitbach, and was enjoyed by all who attended. Fourteen of the kids who started the first grade are graduating together-- Barbara Weeks, Jim Price, Camilla Eilek, Lynda Sieler, Pearl Ballou, Sharon Schlecht, Nancy Bruce, Brad Bruggeman, Jim Kruger, Eddie Randash, Marilyn Malcom, Bob Schweigert, Lloyd Sinclair and Larry Afrank. We are deeply grateful to the faculty for the guidance which they have given us during our years of school. FROST BOWL MARTIN Kr YOUNG 14 Class Prophecy Flash! This is Bob Jafek reporting on the reunion of the class of 1960. It is taking place today, May 30, 1970 at the new Baker High Auditorium. As I am standing here I see several of my old classmates scattered about in the auditorium which I shall mention has the seating capacity of l0,000. Here comes Kay Moline, now a Home economics teacher qher life long ambitionjl I and with her is Virginia Olson who I notice is still wearing bobby socks and is trying to teach Commercial subjects. Another person who has taken up teaching is Bob Schweigert--English no less and he specializes in diagraming. Then from around the corner comes the Truant Officer, Nancy Bruce. Brad Bruggeman, the mechanic, just drove up in his Brad Mobile jet. Brad has been working on Wes Malnovsky's G-37 plane. There's Wes now talking to his Co Pilot, Sharon Schlecht. Right behind them is Walt Graf who just came in from fixing BARB wire fences, and trailing along behind is BARBara Weeks with her first aid kit waiting to repair! Here comes Jim Kruger who is trying to straighten up the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and with him is Lynda Sieler who is going to see if this will change the gravitation forces of the lemon and the orange. Here comes some one in a 10 gallon hat. Just a minute I'll look under the brim--It's Max Lorbiecke, President of the Bad Landers Association, and Rae Bowen his secretary is with him QI hear she milks cows on the sidelinej. Here comes Lloyd Sinclair who still has his beard, a little gray from being on too many television shows. Sneaking around the corner is John Rusley who still has his fast draw, and with him is his professional gun polisher, Pearl Ballou. There's Larry Afrank, owner of Afrank's Rockets Corporation and with him is Jim Steffes the famous rocket tester. Eddie Randash just came in from a cross country drag race and I am pleased to tell you that he won the trophy and got a kiss from Saundra Bechtold, Miss Africa, 1968. Evert Lovec just made a personal delivery to Marilyn Malcolm in Arizona of his famous PLASTIC NYLON HOSERY. Camilla Eilek will be a bit late as she wants to finish up redesigning the White House for President Larry Rustad. You wouldn't recognize Ronald Knipfer and Larry Greenlee as they are costumed for work in the arena of Fallon County Fairgrounds where they are rodeo clowns. The Fair grounds is owned by none other than Donald Fried who in his spare time teaches Geography in the New Baker High. I see Jim Price walking in the door and from the green John Deer uniform he's wearing I'd say he must be the owner of the Price Hardware Store. And now after a short commercial by Wayne Rustad on Station KOMA, the station of the nation leaves the air. This is Bob Jafek saying Good -By and Good Luck. Nancy Bruce Kay Moline Lynda Sieler Jim Price Bob Jafek LAWLER DRUG GREEN DRAGON 15 Class Will Larry Afrank leaves his good grades to Delila Fried. Pearl Ballou leaves her figure to Evonne Afrank. Susan Bechtold leaves hoping she will find Jim Sliper. Rae Bowen leaves'her height to Bill Stadel. Nancy Bruce leaves her partying to Diane Segerstrom. Brad Bruggeman leaves his smart remarks to Kelly Gillan. Camilla Eilek leaves her cheerleading ability to Craig Bowen. Donald Fried leaves his late hours to John Fried. Walter Graf leaves tank hill to make room for an underclassman. Larry Greenlee leaves Erna B. to finish school. Bob Jafek leaves his safe driving habits to Mr. Luetkens. Ronald Knipfer leaves his way with girls to Bob Celander. Jim Kruger leaves his ability to neck on the school grounds to Tom and Diane. Max Lorbiecke leaves his positions as president to Kay Kohler. Evert Lovec leaves thankful to be out. Marilyn Malcom leaves with a diploma in one hand and Bobby's ring in the other. Wesley Malenovsky leaves to make room for a junior. Kay Moline leaves to go to night school with Clifton Varner. Virginia Olson leaves her knack with other girls boy friends to Sharon Duffield. James Price leaves his big hands to Jack I-lall. Ed Randash leaves looking for Carol Ann. John Rusley leaves his Paladin ways to Margaret Coen. Larry Rustad leaves his darling dimples to David Jordan. Wayne Rustad leaves his quiet ways in school to Kenny Schweigert. Sharon Schlecht leaves her pleasant ways to Clayton Keech. Bob Schweigert leaves his ability to play basketball to Phyllis Aldinger. Lynda Sieler leaves in a 1950 Chevrolet. Lloyd Sinclair leaves his beard to Linda Melcher. Barbara Weeks leaves hoping to get married. Jim Steffes leaves his knack of missing school on test days to Art Linden. Lastly we will leave dear Baker High School to be used one more year. Saundra Bechtold Ronald Knipfer Evert Lovec Ed Randash BAKER REXALL DRUG ECONOMY GROCERY 16 Class Poem Come along with us, to school we'll dash, We'll give you a glimpse of a wonderful classp Larry Afrank, the first we see is quite a guy, we all agree. Donald Fried who is a farmer, To all the girls he is a charmerg Our little girl, Rae Bowen doesn't know if she's coming or going, Cam Eilek is known as a cute little cookie, If she's not in school, you've guessed it--playing hooky! Next we see our curly haired lad, Who is our one and only Brad. Marilyn is the wedded lass, Of this our present senior class. Fairest of fairest is Nancy Bruce, Watch your man girls when she's on the loose: Walter gets along fine, Until it comes to shorthand time. Eddie use to drive a lot, 'Til he had a run-in with the cop. Barbara's seldom seen in school, But when she is the boys all drool. Jim Price, is the big man of the foot- ball team, When he gets the ball he lets off steam, Evert Lovec is our little guy, Around girls he's really shy. Kay Moline says she's going to beauty school, Who does she think she's trying to fool? Larry Greenlee's a fellow who has his own car, But he's still too young to go into a bar. Virginia is a teacher's daughter, But she does things she hadn't aughterg Lynda Sieler's a cute little lass, But she giggles in almost every class. Ronald has quite a fast line, To all the girls he says Will you be mine? Saundra plans to be a teacher, if she doesn't first stand before a preacher. Larry and Lloyd are good friends We hope their friendship never ends. At 8:15 we hear a blast, Jim Kruger has arrived in band at lastg Bob Jafek is a big boy, He's always filled with joy. Bob Schweigert is one brilliant guy, He'll make a good husband by and byg Wes Malenovsky is quite a gent, who knows, he might be President. John, a good girl he's sure to marry, Across the threshold he will carryp Next in line is our Pearl Ballou, She makes a good secretary out of school. Wayne spends his time at the six mile place, Probably because of arsenic and lace. Max is a hard guy to beat, He'll soon be plowing the fields for wheatg Jim Steffes to our class returned, For him the girls have all yearned. Last but not least is Sharon, Some day she hopes to marry a baron. This is the end of our class poem, Now out into the world we'l1 all roam.
