Work is a divine provision for developing in us self-reliance, initiative, diligence, and other cardinal qualities. Work should be done in a spirit of gladness and gratitude. No day should be closed without the evidence of new and better achievements. Inevery activity let us do our best, and let the world make its own appraisement. We are what we are. Explanations seldom explain. We can cultivate a fine sense of independence, based up the assurance that we are loyal to a high standard of conduct. Know that through patient and persistent effort we can reach our rightful place in the world. Work is the great developer of power -- the one agency which calls forth hidden forces of mind and body. L. W. Heftie, Superintendent MR. L. W. HEFTIE 'As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. If we want a good society we must see to it that we have good people for its citizens. The Chinese have a proverb which aptly expresses this thought: You cannot carve rotten wood. In other words a good society cannot be made up of inferior citizens. Your parents and teachers have tried to instill in you the basic ideals of good citizen- ship for they realize that if you have the right motives for what you do you will do the right thing. L.
