Baker High School You wouldn't expect little Susie to wear her dresses long after she has out- grown them, would you? Neither would you expect students to go to a school that is over crowded and out of date. 37 years ago when this school was built, it was large enough to accommodate the students that attended, but today the population of Baker has increased and the school is now much too small for the number of students attending. Schools like clothes wear out. After 37 years ol faithful service to our community, our high school is worn out and we are badly in need of a new one. In order to give the children who come up from the grades a better opportunity fora good education, we the class of 53 feel that a new high school is an absolute necessity. Vocational Agriculture Building VOCATIONAL TRADE SHOP ¥ Baker High School had been following the traditional academic program of stud- ies which prepares students to enter col- lege. A check of the school records and a follow-up of students who were graduated from Baker High showed that only 20 per cent of Baker students continued their edu- cation beyond high school. Something had to be done for the boys of Baker, Montana, to give them a more practical education. The percentage of dropouts was 6 per cent. The 80 per cent who terminated their education at the end of high school showed that the wrong type of education was offered. Something was needed to interest the students in con- tinuing their education. The trustees realized that the curricu- lum of the Baker High School had to be revised to meet the needs of the students of the community. Vocational Agriculture has been of- fered in the Baker High School since the 1950-51 term. A chapter of Future Farmers of America was organized. Since the construction of the vocational building at Baker, the first two classes of ag students won highest honors in Montana with their judging teams. Each year they won the district meet which permitted them to enter the state meet at Montana State College at Bozeman. Both years Baker took top honors at state which entitled them to compete at the national meet at Kansas City, Missouri, and Waterloo, Iowa. Since the vocational building and ad- ditional trade classes have been added to Baker High School the percentage of drop- outs is less than one per cent. Sponsored by Kit Kat Klub and Economy Grocery
