J M04 Track tumouts were delayed because of the extra length of basketball season this year. Since April. however, the track forces of Baker were involved in at least one meet each week. Out of a field of twelve A schools, Baker earned a seventh place finish at the Boise Iunior College Invitational Track and Field Meet, held in Boise, Idaho. At the Tri-County Meet CBaker, Union, Wallowal, Baker finished fourth. Other events participated in this year were: Eastern Oregon Invitational. Pendleton. May 9: District Qualifying Meet, La Grande, May 16: State Meet, Corvallis, May 22 - 23. It has been a building year. Most members of the track team are iuniors and sophomores. Its chief aim is to prepare its members to establish themselves in farming and to improve their homes and community. The main activities of the Future Farmers of America are to hold and attend such gatherings as, exhibit at fairs, stock judging at the State Fair, lead- ership and shop skill contest, state and national conventions, annual Farmer's Day dance, award night or Parent and Son Banquet. Randy Dickinson and Eddie Hayhurst attended the Kansas City Conven- tion in November. Attending the state convention at Corvallis, Oregon, were Charles Anderson, Eddie Hayhurst, Sherman Kipling, Randy Dickinson and Tom Baxter. They have helped Mrs. Erickson give readiness tests, participated in a Pep Night skit, and made a marshmallow church centerpiece for the third floor of the hospital. Each member has had a chance to arrange the bulletin board in the library and help the grade school teachers decorate th eir bulletin boards. May baskets were also given to the teachers. Dinner meetings are held with a table topic, speeches, and formal criticism given. Every meet- ing the best speaker by popular vote is awarded the traveling loving cup. At the end ot the year the speaker receiving the cup the most times has his name engraved on the cup and is allowed to keep it over the summer. This year the club sponsored a Centennial Talent Assembly commem- orating Oregon's 100th birthday. Outstanding events through the 100 Years were symbolized by student talent. The assembly was favorably received by students, faculty, and visitors. Roberta Rowe and Evelyn Britton were co-chair- men. Walter Scott represented BHS in the I Speak ior Democracy contest.
