Evans Superintendent of Schools The space age opens horizons unlimited to the bold of heart and the educationally prepared. Baker schools strive continually to offer courses of such basic soundness and such educational firmness as to form the base from which each student may plot his course and launch himself into the first stage of his life orbit-whether it be a path to the higher sciences, or to homemaking, to the humanities, to the mechanical or distributive fields, to medicine or religion or edu- cation. The board feels that each must apply himself with zeal while here and later to reach the heights in his chosen field-to serve his fellow man as the vistas of the air age unfold. DR. I. R. Knowl- ege and understanding. hoth in scholastic education and human nature. will be of priceless value to us whether we go on to college or whether this marks the end of our iormal education. The most pronounced accomplishment oi our class has not been a goal such as the Prom or a plaque. but the reaching oi unity and pride in our class. As president l wish to express my personal apprecia- tion and, l know. the appreciation ol every member oi my class. to our patient advisers. Mrs. lnman and Mr. McCul- tough. lor their aid and guidance to the door ol whatever lield we may have chosen for ourselves. Our class colors were turquoise and white and our Prom theme Heaven on Earth. lt was certainly one of the best even given in Baker High School. May the beauty and enthusiastic unity put iorth in our Prom stand forever as a memorial to us, the seniors ol 58. HON DAVIS. After a somewhat slow start un- der new Head Coach Stan Smith the team hung up an 8 win-1 loss record. Bob Vervaeke. Dick Gee, Gary Mires. Lyle Ingram. and Bill Woodcock were selected to the Blue Mt. Conference All-Star team. Bob Vervaeke and Bill Woodcock were honored further by Bob being given Honorable Mention All-American. and Bill being on the All-State team and also was selected to play in the Shriners Hospital All-Star game. Page Thirty-Two With only one regular, Gary Mires, back from the 1956-57 team, the outlook seemed quite dim for the 1957-58 Bulldc-gs. However through stellar periormances by Danny Ayers, Bob Vervaeke, Larry Anderson, Lloyd Cole, and Gary Mires, the team compiled a very line season, winning 11 and losing 9. We lost five conference games by a total of only six points. The iollowing senior boys will be very much missed next year: Bob Vervaeke, Larry Anderson, Bob Sproed, Tim Zemmer and Richard Hunt. We had two juniors make the All-Conference team this year, Gary Mires and Lloyd Cole. Not often does one school place two men out of tive on the first team. So with these two boys plus Danny Ayers, Dick Gee, Eddie Rose. Marvin Endicott and Steve VanOcker, along with a strong group of boys from the IV squad, things should be better in 1958-59.
