Page BOARD OF EDUCATION Tnere exists no doubt that a nation's greatest resource is its youth, and it follows that the greatest work of mankmd is the development of this resource through various means, chief among which are the home, the church, and the school. ln the process of development, the human potential is astounding to contemplate-what future scientist sits in the class? what president? what doctor? what Samaritan? what great religious leader? what motner oi a future Lincoln? what friend to man? The real potential inherent in a person begins to develop as that lite sets its course. At precisely what minute is the light lit to direct the future minister toward his goal? the researcher toward the atom? Which Mr. Chips will kindle the spark? Which Miss Dove will direct the growing thoughts oi the future surgeon? The Maker has not made man clairvoyant that he may know which simple acts of today will aiiect human aflairs tomorrow. That mother who made a place for the boy Lincoln amid the charcoal oi the hearth could not forsee Gettysburg, but her goodness glows yet in that unaymg episode. Such is the shaping of things to be. And verily the education of youth is the surest foundation of happiness, for each dedicated teacher, or parent. or friend has his place, large or small to his own making, in the timeless movement of destiny. Although a devoted teacher or principal works for a time among youth and moves on to the aid of others. his work accomplished carries on through the ages, never stilled nor ever completely measured.
