Hon. Sam Coon Member of Congress MEMBER ia ions omm SAM COON SECOND Disrmcr onrcom Appl-Qpr q C tl Qfnngrvs-5 nf the Qliluiteh States ?5IJ1I5P of llrpreseiitafibw Illnsliingtnn, QB- CK. To MEET AMERICAS NEW RESPONSIBILTY of world lead- ership, each one of us should know, not only the Three R's of reading, writing and arithmetic, but we should also know how to use our hands skillfully, to observe accurately, rea- son Well, express ourselves clearly, and above all to coop- erate with all mankind for a better world. True education means development and cultivation of the mind, the heart and character. Every person has two kinds of education, one which he receives from his schooling and one which he gives himself. Abraham Lincoln had a steady eagerness to learn, and he never ceased to study and educate himself. He would walk many miles to borrow books and legal volumes from his friends. He also read and studied his Bible regularly. After he became President, he once said to a young man, You cannot fail if you resolutely determine that you will not fail, because success does not so much depend cn your sur- roundings as on your self-reliance.
