VOLUME XLVIII 49211 gzffbbn BAKER HIGH SCHOOL BAKER, GREGON HD I HIRDTI , if ---.- 'vv' - '- 'W' ' ' x v, '. 3-Lx Li gamdafg ' DOUBTLESS THE BKEGEST single change in the history of Baker schools occurred this year in a consolidation of fourteen districts of which Baker has been the hub. The districts of Auburn-Stewart, Pocahontas, Iames, Winaf ville, Baker, Rock Creek, Sutton Creek, Fairview, Pleasant Valley, Troy, Lone Pine, Haines, Missouri Flat, and Sunnyslope were merged into a new consolidated district on March 17 and May 6. Of the entire group, only four are operating schools this year. Children from the other districts are attending school in Baker. Thus districts, organized in Baker county's early history, completed their mission and now have Joined with other dis- tricts for continued service to the youth of the area. The Auburn, Pocahontas, and Winaville school buildings will become centers for scouts, 4-l-l, and community gatherings, thus carrying on their service to the people of their respective areas. lt is anticipated that Pleasant Valley school will become a community center when school is abandoned for school purposes. The new consolidated district with an assessed value of i5l2,U0O,UOO is one of the best of the state and is dedicated to furnish increasingly finer educaticnal opportunities for all youth of the area. As a part of its plan for increased service, Baker has been one of the initiators of a Iunior College bill which allows forma tion of community colleges in Oregon and will have widespread educational influence over the state. 1:3 MR.
