As a faculty member at Baker High School for the past twenty years, I have observed numerous changes. Growth in numbers of students and faculty members, physical plant improvements, elimination of middle school students from the present school site, and repeated variations in school boundary lines are but a few of the changes which have had a definite impact on Baker High School and the surrounding communities. Through it all, the primary goal is and has been to maintain high standards and strive for excellence in all curricular and extra-curricular activities. Jerry Epperson, principal ot Baker I High since 1969, will step down as the , “Head Buffalo” in June, 1987. Mr. Ep- person received his elementary, junior high, and high school education in Baker. He graduated from Baker High in 1951. [ In high school he was a member of Mu I Sigma and Beta Club and was captain of t the football team. Mr. Epperson returned » to Baker High as assistant principal in j 1968, became principal in 1969, and is i now looking to retirement with mixed i emotions. Coach Larry Thomas has been at Baker High School for 21 years. In addition to being head coach of the varsity football team,he is the school’s athletic director and dean of students. Coach Thomas believes that Baker High is one of the best schools in the state and that the1 student body is together and very supportive of one another. Through experience and years around the students here, he learns and knows what students like, and he tries to do what is best.
