The yearbook staff wishes the viewer as much pleasure as the staff has had producing this copy for “you.” THF. BUFF STAFF Delivering carnations for Homecoming, working in the just talking to a friend, contribute to the day's industrious schedule for the student. — r Mr. Epperson’s dedication to education contributes to our .successful programs. Mr. Bullock’s day consists of counseling students, solving discipline problems, and Checking attendance records. Mrs. Sumrall’s presence in the guidance office adds a ray of sunshine for all. Mrs, Pratt labors over the mountain of papers that results from her math classes. David steals the show with his solo. “Michelle, can you believe this?” BHS Cheerleaders “get it together ” and as usual Kristi comes out on top. -MX Photographers often discover unusual characteristics of the students especially when the photographers arc armed with a camera. Redemptorist Buffs Jam In Jamboree 7-0 Scoreboard BHS 7 Red 0 BHS 20 Broadmoor 13 BHS 9 E. Baker struck quickly with what turned out to be the only score of the night. Jamie Dueote's 46 yard pass, to split-end Joe Bowie, and Clark Moran's extra point gave the Buffs the lead and eventual win with nine minutes left in the first half. 49 Broadmoor Buffs By Bucs 20-13 Sparked by the excellent running of Ty Stewart and a courageous effort by Tom Johnson, the Buffaloes downed the Broadmoor Buccaneers 20-13 in a non-district contest. A 44-yard sprint by Stewart midway through the fourth quarter rallied the Buffs from a 13-12 deficit. The Buffs defense allowed 12 first downs. 145 yards rushing. and 56 yards passing for a total of 201 yards, but gave up just one touchdown. 50 Turnovers Hurt Buffs, Help EA 14-9 bast Ascension took advantage of six Baker turnovers to down the Buffs 14 9 in a non-district contest at Spartan Stadium in Gonzales. This victory will keep the Mayor's Trophy, exchanged between the two cities, in Gonzales for the second straight year. The Spartans took six plays to punch the ball in but missed the extra point, leaving East Ascension ahead 6-0. Following a Willie Green interception. the Buffs rallied for their only touchdown of the night. 51 Opelousas Buffs Fumble Victory To Opelousas 28-14 Once again Baker’s mistakes cost the Buffs a non-district game. The Opelousas Tigers downed Baker 28 — 14 at Donald Gardner Stadium in Opelousas. Outstanding plays in this drive were from substitute tailback Scott Dictcrich's 26 yard run and Ty Stewart's 15 yard touchdown jaunt. Following the Buff touchdown, turnovers again began to plague Baker. The Buffs lost three fumbles on the night, which Opelousas converted into its third Tiger touchdown. 52 Hammond l or the second straight year. Hammond overcame a two touchdown Baker lead to steal the victory. 15-14. in the 7-AAAA district opener for both teams. Baker controlled most of the first half to take a 14-0 lead, but Hammond exploded for a 75-yard touchdown pass late in the first half and a 96 yard kick-off return to open the second half. On the extra attempt, the holder hobbled the snap and pulled up to toss a two point conversion to the split end. Ty Stewart and Tom Johnson paced the Buffaloes with 92 and 66 yards respectively. Baker ended up with 205 total yards offensively. Baker took three weeks of frustration out on Covington as the Buffs demolished the Lions 36-8 in a district game in Covington. The Buffs were near perfect against Covington piling up 327 yards in total offense with just one turnover. Defensively, Baker had a superb effort rushing and 112 yards passing. The Buffs also forced five turnovers on two interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Ty Stewart led the Buff ground game with 140 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries for a 7.4 yard average. 54 Denham Buffs Lose Close One 20-14 Baker dropped a thrilling 20 14 district contest to unbeaten Denham Springs in a packed Wedge kyes Stadium. The Yellow Jackets scored the games winning touchdown with a minute left in the third-period. but had to hold off three Buff scoring threats in the fourth quarter to hang on. The two Baker touchdown's came on scoring losses of 51 and 13 yards by Jamie Ducotc to Joe Bowie. The Buffs nearly doubled the Yellow Jackets in offensive plays by the count of 73 to 37 but fell short in the scoring total. 55 Gulfport Gulfport Shuts Out Buffaloes 7-0 One touchdown was enough as the Gulfport Admirals defeated the Buffs 7-0 in a defensive struggle in a non-district contest at Gulfport’s Milner Stadium. Baker limited Gulfport to 188 total yards and just 73 yards in the second half, but the Buffaloes were only able to gain 127 yards on the night and were shut out for the first time in 37 games. 56 Central Buffaloes Stampede Wildcats 35-7 The Baker Buffaloes continued their mastery over Central b stampeding the Wildcats 35-7 in Central. The win kept the Buffs play-off hopes alive, but wins over Belaire and Glen Oaks are necessary to secure Baker's play-off spot. The Buff offense had a terrific night compiling 457 total yards, getting 423 of that on the ground behind the fine running of Tom Johnson. Ashley Scott, and Ty Stewart. Johnson and Scott led the Buff ground game with 192 and 108 yards respectively. Belaire Buffs Humiliate Belaire 45-18 TheBaker Buffaloes humiliated the Belaire Bengals by trouncing them 45-IS at Wedge Kyes Stadium. The Buffs were led b Jamie l)u-cote's three touchdown passes and 31 yards on six carries. Joe Bowie grabbed scoring passes of 20. 50. and seven yards despite playing with an injured leg. Baker's defensive secondary played an exceptional game containing Belaire s potent passing game to l( ( yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions. 58 Glen Oaks Panthers Upset Buffaloes 8-7 The Glen Oaks Panthers upset the Baker Buffaloes 8-7 in the mud at Baker's Wedge Kycs Stadium. The loss to the last place Panthers prevented the Buffs from advancing to the state play-offs for the third straight year. All the scoring came in the second period as Tom Johnson's two-yard scoring run and Clark Moran’s extra point gave Baker a 7-0 lead. But the Panther's came back to score what proved to be the winning points when Scan Tate scored a touchdown and the two point conversion in a remarkably error-free contest. 59 w 4 J.V. Will Everyone think he’s cute? Boy, I'd Rather stay home- not really. He dials the number, then he nervously hangs up. “I can’t understand. I know I heard the phone ring!” Guys- act so cool- but they’re unsure too. Hey! Guess what? I got a date for the prom!! Jittery nerves mark the day- they are Unable to relax- wishing the hours would fly by. Never before have I experienced this feeling. ‘‘I think you look very nice,” will do. Oh. I hope I don’t make a Real fool out of myself during dinner. As they enter the fine restaurant, heads turn, but No one speaks they all just smile. remembering prom Dates they had in years gone by. Special care taken with their clothes Especially her gown, so that No other girl has one like hers. I think even he is nervous, but Oh no! He’ll never let her know. That’s not cool. Ready at last, a smile- a dance- a touch. Pressed lovingly between two pages of her Romantic diary, is the corsage, of now wilted Orchids that were once so beautiful, so special. Memories — bittersweet- that’s all that is left now. __MhB sP 214 Bottom Row: Tranny Ford. Missy Shepard. Ruvscll While, Theresa Bond, Don l.cmon Top Row: Vcltoris Moncriffc, Cynthia Smith.
