If students aren't involved directly with athletics, they participate indirectly by supporting the Battling Buffaloes Baker's reputation in school even's makes one proud to be called a Buffalo . A few Baker High students disguised as Buff Raiders, became a little R-O-W-D-V at a pep rally. The band is also getting ready for the pep rally with an early morning practice. After a confrontation with Mr. Bullock. Brent eyes his tardy card. During Halloween, the true devils come out at Baker High School. As anyone can see. David Redd and Lee Miller were in a deep discussion before we interrupted. It seems that David has misplaced his pencil, and Lee has volunteered to help in the search. Gerald Harbour, Rich'© Ory, and Milton Broussard, led the Buffaloes to a 40-0 District Champ onship The Baker Band Surprises everyone as they play music standing on their heads, and lying on the field! The Interact Club was very active, especially at their Bar-b-ques! Ya'II may think I'm old fashion, but I'm not as old as you believe. Coach Broussard, also known as Preacher Brown , is well liked with the students at Baker High School. The Baker High Cheerleaders never stopped backing their Buffs. During the summer they attended camp at Northwestern State University. They received three out of four spirit sticks, plus three superiors and one excellent. The cheerleaders were also in competition elsewhere. One of these was the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair. They received a first place trophy. They also attended a one day camp and competition at University of Southwestern Louisiana. They were awarded Most Spirited and a first place trophy. The Cheerleaders were very proud of their football team's record. They were willing to work to help boost spirit. One cheerleader was quoted as saying, “We have enjoyed this year of cheering for our Buffs and are ready for a great basketball and wrestling season! The members of the squad are Kay Southall; capt.. One that most students have in common is eating. Three of the most popular foods are chicken, pizza, and hamburgers. After a football game, wrestling match, or basketball game, students crowd into McDonalds for hamburgers, french fries, and cokes. School is also becoming a popular place to eat. Ms. Dietrich tried a new course in backpacking where girls cooked on homemade stoves. The Interact Club has also done their share of eating. One must audition her skills of coordination and memory to be selected as a corps member. The Flag Corps is part of the band family and must attend all functions along with the band During football season, the Flag Corps has practice with the band from 2:00 until 4:00 or longer. Money must be spent for uniforms, flags, tapes, and other accessories. It is still one of the least expensive support groups in school. A lot of time must be put into perfecting routines. The girls take a lot of criticism from the captain if things are not satisfactory. Being in the Flag Corps is hard but gratifying work. Before coming to Baker, Mr. Wargo taught five years at Zachary High School. He has a BA degree from Northeast La. University, ana a MA degree from LSU. Mr. Wargo says there are a lot of reasons why he likes BHS. The faculty works well together, and the student body is generally easy to teach. There's a deep sense of tradition at Baker, and it was present this year as the football team went 11-0, and faculty, students and parents showed their pride by following a super team to the Superdome. “I can sum up my feelings and reasons for liking Baker High in three words.
