Baker High's treasure resides in the guidance office in the guise ol Mrs. Lucille Bond. She began her teaching career at Baker High in 1930 and throughout the next 45 years she has been a friend to students, faculties, administrations. and citizens of Baker. “The sweetest lives are those duty wed.” Mrs. Bond has dedicated her life to her chosen profession—teacher-counselor. Baker High School can never repay or match the many gifts of love and kindness that she has given over and beyond the call of duty. It is proper and fitting then that Bilker High School dedicates the 1975 yearbook to a wonderful person and true friend—MBS. LUCILLE BOND. Faculty 33 Donny = arrid and ‘ QUonda. The scroll represents learning, education, literary achievement, tradition, dignity, and durability. The quill is a symbol of thought, of literature, of education, of knowledge, and of human chronicles. The torch is a symbol of liberty, of life, and of light. The sinister chief quarter or upper left side holds a mullet or Scottish star representing the cadence of lineage. Baker High School was the fifth school to be found in the parish and is therefore considered the? fifth son of tile school community which is symbolized by the five points on the star. The dexter base quarter or lower right side holds the pelican on her nest protecting her young to signify the State of Louisiana. The sinister base quarter or lower left side holds the clasped hand to symbolize friendship and the welcoming of many faiths and creeds into the school communit). The red and black dividers form a cross on the field of the shield swnbolixing a Christian community. The fess point or center of the shield is superimposed with an irmersliield bearing a buffalo, the school mascot. The base of the shield holds a ribbon signifying unity and school spirit and is inscribed w ith the founding date of Baker School. The arrowheads on either side of the founding date relate to the Indians who first inhabited the area. The chief, above the shield, holds an Old English “B” for the house and order of tlie Baker family as the order starts with “BAKER ’ The manteling, from the letter “B” to the ribbon below on both sides of the shield, is oak leaves. These leaves symbolize strength, character, power, and independence. A total of twelve leaves, six on each side, represent the number of years necessary for graduation. Perhaps the Alma Mater best summarizes the tradition and pride of Baker High School. The words were written by Mr. Ossie Brown, a 1943 graduate of Baker High School and prominent attorney in Baton Rouge, and Mrs. Strubbc McConnell (band director at that time) arranged the music. ALMA MATER Through the years we'll keep Thy love. And Thy standards raise. L tJ i 1 ) 1? Hail. To Thee Ole Baker High, Keep the spirits that sing piaise. Fondest memories come of Thee.
