Social studies - guidepost to good citizenship In the proper environment, a plant can grow green and healthy. And in the proper educational environment, a student can become a well-rounded, well-informed citizen. The plant's environment should include exposure to sunlight, air, and water, while the student's should include exposure to several of the following: world history, American history, world geography, civics, and American government-sociology. Through learning by the mistakes of others in the past, finding out how others live in the world about him, and studying the workings of his own government, he can realize how fortunate he is to live in the United States.
