We, the ARROWHEAD staff, have sought to preserve that TIME which we feel has held for you much meaning. Thus, we present to you a record of your school year—the highlights of TIME 1961. May this account bring you pleasure; for, indeed, that is its purpose. Within this issue, the symbols of TIME will guide you; through activities, through classes, through each page. Observe these signs; they contain meaning; they convey knowledge. TIME is an eternal agent, an everlasting medium. For this reason we have chosen it as the theme of the 1961 ARROWHEAD, and hope that its content will be as eternal as TIME. Some members of this group entertained at the 1960-61 Honor Student Banquet. Others won high ratings at the District Music Festival. The 1960-61 season was an outstanding success. The curtain rose with the production of the hilarious comedy, CHARLEY’S AUNT. The classic play ROMEO AND JULIET was the second production which gave the audience entertainment more on the cultural side. The season curtain fell with the production of BORN YESTERDAY, a sophisticated comedy. Chosen were Diane Dor- miny, sophomore: Codi Sinclair, senior; Helen Jackson, junior; Ann Vollintine, fresh- man: and Delores Clements, senior, who was crowned Queen. Bringing the Christmas season at Baker to a climax was the crowning of the Christmas Queen, Miss Barbara Brooks, who is pictured here with her escort. Junior Civitan Sweetheart Candidates were: sitting, Beverly Chapman, Trit Ramsey, Janet Hogg; standing, Libby Norris and Jane John- son. Janet was elected Sweetheart. Reigning as Valentine Queen is Edwina An- derson, shown here with her court, who are, L.-R.: Kathy King, escorted by Larry Far- mer; Edwina Anderson, escorted by Billy Waldrop; and Gay Lyles, escorted by Mike Snider. Dr. Kirby and Mr. Brice Carson enjoy a friendly game of tennis on the recently constructed Baker courts. But the faculty members had fun, too! Teachers and prin- cipals may be considered “old fuddy-duddies” in the class- room, but observe them in action in the outer world! “Wherefore art thou Romeo?” demands Mrs. Juliet Gray of Coach Romeo Watkins in the Teachers’ Talent Show. Baker participated again in the annual March of Dimes Walk-a-thon. Al- though placing third, we collected more for polio than in any previous year. While the event may indi- cate competition between the schools, in actuality it tends to develop closer and friendlier relations; for there exists no better med- ium through which to bind ties than working together for a common cause. Baker students preparing for the annual March of Dimes Walk-a- Thon are Colby Mosier, Brenda Hatcher, Tommy Anderson, and Mike Kocian. Also campaigning are LeRoy Powell, Bea Leonard, Billy Logan, Wanda Johnson, Annette Johnson, Joan Childrey, Gwenette Johnson, Mike Kocian, Anne Thomas, and Donna Shadden. Baker’s walkers, Brenda Hatcher and Mike Kocian, with the able assistance of Jenee Wells, collect March of Dimes funds along the highway. Pre-election debates were held before the student body in order to discuss both sides of the political issues. Maureen Gorecki speaks on the Kennedy- Johnson platform. Participating in the fashion show presented for the girls of Baker were Tana Glisson, Libby Norris, and Phyllis Smith. Illustrating the physical differences in Baker students and symbolizing many other differences are Eddie Joiner, Kenny Miller, and Tom O’Connor. The student body and its activities reflect many dif- ferent aspects. Scholastic, social, and political views are but a few of these char- acteristics ; yet keen desire for knowledge, enthusiasm in associating with others, and interest in the events of the contemporary world may be considered the major factors which con- stitute the personality of Baker’s student body.
