CHORUS: Alma Mater, thee we honor True and loyal be Ever crown with grace and glory BAKER, hail to theel We will never, never falter We will do or die And for us the blue and white will Ever wave on high. CLASS SONG lTune: Serenade of the Bells? Now the time has come to say goodbye to All the happy hours we've spent with you We have memories of fun and laughter, And the tears we shed as we part. As we go on to the life before us, Knowing not what we will have to face, We will try with hopes and high ambition To make the world a better place. Everyone knows the time is coming, When we'll be called on to do our part, If its to fight a war we're willing, But our hearts will pray for peace. As we leave these dear old halls of Baker, To you we promise to be true, a We will cherish all that you have taught us And love your colors white and blue. 6 f - X w. zgywhz Q A Mk, , -.. Who are those skinny, scared-looking kids over there? My goodness, is that the new sub-freshman class? What in the world is Baker coming to ?11 Perhaps these were some of the comments which were heard about this year's Senior Class when they first came to Baker four or five years ago. And maybe these same students were saying, Oh, how will l ever find my way and get to class on time in this huge place? Or they were probably wonder- ing how they would make out when they tried to brave the lengthy lunch line. Looking back over the records, though, we discover that this year's Senior Class has made a fine record for itself. The seniors have brought' a lot of honors to Baker. Barbara Skipper was the sub-freshman candidate for Christmas Queen. Dorothy McArthur was the sub-freshman candidate for the Valentine Ball Queen. ln the freshman year, after they'd grown more accustomed to the big school and found a place for themselves in the large crowd Sue Taylor was elected president of the freshman class, Charles Elliott, vice-president, Edith Bowdoin, secretary, and Nadine Beach, treasurer. That year Charles Elliott and Barbara Brown represented the freshman class as candidates for King and Queen of the Christmas Carnival. Charles reigned as King. Barbara again represented the freshman class as a candidate for Queen of the Valentine Ball. All during these years the members of the class were preparing themselves to be officers of clubs, cheerleaders, majorettes, band members and to engage in other school activi- ties. We see the members of the class trying to get a finger into everything. The sophomore class officers were: president, Stanley Wells, vice-president, Joe Preston, secreetary, Barbara Brown, treasurer, James Ward, and spnosor, Mrs. Sue Slaughter. Barbara Brown was again a candidate for Christmas Car- nival Queen, Last year, the junior year for this class, proved to be one of the most successful years for any class at Baker. Several state honors were brought to Baker by this class. The class officers were: president, Terry Pemberton, vice-president, Jack Mobley, secretary, Nadine Beach, treasurer, Jessie Lee Harden, and sponsor, Mrs. Althea Carr. Connie McMullen and Ralph Hicks represented the junior class as candidates for King and Queen of the Christmas Car- nival. Connie also won the office of secretary of the State D. C. T. Edith Bowdoin won an office as state historian of the Future Homemakers of America. Shirley Hand was elected as the first Sweetheart of Baker High. Other candidates were Beth Ballard, Gayle Barton, Nina Davis, and Bobbie Ann Gamble. Nadine Beach, who was chosen to edit The Lion's Roar, also won several state honors in journalism and was elected President' of G. S. P. A. Bob Franklin was the only cheerleader from the junior class. Mary French and Gail Brunson represented the class as majorettes. Barbara Brown and Beth Ballard represented the junior class as candidates for the annual Peanut Bowl Queen Contest. Terry Pemberton was selected center on All-Bi-City Foot- ball team of 1952. Baker was also Bi-City Football Champions that year. The junior class gave the seniors a dance, better known as the Junior-Senior Prom. Deep South was used as the theme for the dance. Now, as this year's senior class draws to the close of its high school career, it would be hard to tell of the honors anc influence they have left behind. To each member of the senioi class, old and new, credit is due for their share in making each class and each event the success they have been. Eact member has had a part, no matter how large or small, in eact function each year. This year, our senior year, was one of the best ever at Baker. The class officers were: President, Terry Pemberton vice-president, Barbara Phillipy, secretary, Billy Kelly, treasurer Jessie Lee Harden, and sponsor, Mrs. Althea Carr. The senior cheerleaders were Bob Franklin, Johnny Edeker Gayle Barton, and Barbara Phillipy. The senior majorette: were drum majorettes Mary French, Gail Brunson, and Jackie Screws. ' Nadine Beach was again elected to edit The Lions' Roar Nina Davis was re-elected as president of Student Council and Martha Hatcher was elected editor of the yearbook, Thi Arrowhead. Well, this ends our sojourn here at Baker, four years o happiness and fulfillment that we shall always cherish. 'C- -,x 'Secs , , ,S , X51 S J A J -. 4- 4- ' , I 4 JA H 1, 5- .Quin aging ilifmii ng.
