Y asuko Hayashida It is customary when publishing an annual to dedicate it to some person who has made an out- standing contribution to the high school. We would like to change that a little and dedicate it to a whole group of people. We have borrowed a slogan for the theme of our annual, perhaps we will be ex- cused if we borrow another term. It has been said that our Island is a Way of Life made up of in- dustry and agriculture, hard work and peace. To all those who enjoy this way of life, the people of Bainbridge, We dedicate this 1955 Spartan Life- the Gem of Puget Sound edition. QS x, Q A AQHSQ Mvwwxm 3551553 N .., x - FOX. Mrs. Ethel Smokie Dahl, School Nurse One of the best assets of the Gem of Puget Slound is our school system. The fact that it is such a well-run system is due largely to the labor and planning which must be done by the school board, Made up of men who take time from their regular work to worry about the educational facilities of Bainbridge, the 'school board is a progressive and interested group. Only once a. year are We able to give them the credit which they deserve, so we take this way to thank them for the time they spend, that we might have the opportunity of education. Many times in onganizatilons there are people who do much of the Work yet Who receive very little recognition. Such a person is the nurse, who has charge of the health of the pupils of both the high and grade schools. When accidents arise it is good to know that there is someone to whom we can turn who is capable of giving aid. BEST WISHES Hackett QQ Olsen Brothers Vlking 2484 Winslow, Wash. ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY OFFICERS DICK AXELSON President President Dick Axelson really shlowed his -outstanding leadership in the way A.S.B, azffairs were run this year. Along with his presidential duties, Dick found time to keep an excellent scholastic record and to participate in sports. After tackling the job of Vice President, Lindell Christopher-son has worked well to distinguish himself. His chairmanship of the magazine drive marked him as a good officer. Barbara Bergren, who served as our secretary, had a double job since she acted as treasurer too, With an ever-present smile and Willing to do anything required of her, Barb was indeed 'an indust- rious officer. ' LINDELL CHRISTOPHEFKSON, Vice-President BARBARA BERGREN, Secretary STUDENT COUNCIL Carrying out the American concept of democracy, our school has had representative student government for several years. The student Council plays an integral part in helping plan and carry out the school program. The rules and regulations of many activities are worked out by the student government in cooperation with the administration. CLASS HISTORY After three years of labor toward a goal, the Class of '55 found itself nearer to that goal than it had ever thought possible. There seemed to be a difference in all that the members did, for soon they would never do any of these things again. Looking back, they remembered all that they had done together-the initiation over which they had been so ner- vousg frosh basketballg decorating for a Baccalaureate which they are now about to attend as the honored guestsg and putting on the Banquet and commencement decorations. There are many memories wrapped up in these halls, and as glad as many of the students are that their school days are ended, they cannot help looking back-and remembering. Fans saw a lot of good action on the football field this fall. With only the Spartan Spark for company, the two coaches took a rather long stroll after the game against South. We found that Coach is a man of his word when he fulfilled his promise to walk home after our guys beat Podunk. Dick leaps high into the air as the Spartans start on their winning streak of 26 games. This was taken at the jarnboree which the team easily won. T h e victorious t e a m looks at the trophy which they won with a record o f twelve wins and no losses. One of the most thrill- ing of the earlier games was against Bremerton on our floor. Here, Gene goes in for a lay-up in one of the exciting plays. A f t e r winning second place for the second year in a row, the team prepared to take a well- earned rest. Here, the three tall timbers ex- amine the trophy which they helped to win.
