- n ? K .- i .-wr-e tv ww- --I -f'-1-'vw t --'I CLASS PROPHECY TIME--1966 PLACE-Dean Residence INCIDENT-Iohnny Fleming, world famous lec- turer on TEN EASY WAYS TO DO NOTHING, stops in to visit the gradually fading old maid, Martha Dean. Iohnny Fleming! What on earth are you doing here? Well, I was passing through town so I de- cided to come to see you about something that has been bothering me for five or six years. What's that? Well, I was just wondering if Betty Brockett is still mad with us for not completing the class prophecy in time for the annual? I sincerely doubt if she's thought any more about it since she and her staff assistants, Shirley Davis and Ellen Durham, became co-editors of Playboy magazine. Haven't you heard? Ellen has given up her position on the staff to become U. S. distributor of foreign cars and Shirley followed suit when she became honorary President of Pi KA. My goodness, I didn't know that, but then so many things have happened since we graduated. lust think how time has altered the lives of our classmates. Yes, it's really surprising to learn how the dif- ferent lives have changed. As fate would have it, some have become famous, and some are doing the same thing they were doing in high school. Take Harriet Harrell, for instance. I never detected any musical ability in her: but she is now a famous recording star. Have you heard her two new releases, THE BREEZE AND I, and KO-KO-MO? No, I haven't. Oh well, they always were her favorites. Iohn, you remember Archie Dodson's Barber Shop on Water Street, don't you? Well, Archie now has expanded his shop by adding two bar- bers, Ferris Sandlin and Scott Connell: and the two best shine boys in town, Buck Powell and Ronald Durham. Also, for the customer's conven- ience, he has a staff of manicurists composed of none other than Margaret Rose LeGalley, Delilah Griner, Betty Io Roland,.IOY Busby and Ann Phil- lips. You don't say! I'll have to drop by While I'm in town and get the works. Since you've traveled so extensively, I know you must have been to some of the world's best restaurants, but we have an establishment that will match any one of your favorites. It's Donald- son's Diner, operated by Tommy Donaldson, who has as his combination waitresses, cooks, and dishwashers, Lauritz Walker, Frances Hawkins, Ila Darley, and Phyllis Cobia. How are things doing down at B.H.S.? I hear the English department is still moving at a fast pace, only Eleanor Haynes and Ieanine Hurt are heading it now. The only hold-up in their prog- ress is Mickey Doss. Mickey, who is principal, still doesn't believe in homework. Well, you know that old saying, 'If at first you don't succeed, try, try, again.' This certainly can be applied to the politicians of our class. They had a hard fight but they have finally struggled to the top of the ladder. I suppose their struggle must have begun at Boy's and Girl's State, but they are now big wheels in Washing- ton. Iohn Ingram and Pate Bridges are co-chairmen of the Senate subcommittee on Segregation while Beth Long is the first lady Speaker of the House. Martha, I was completely astonished to hear that Phoebe Porter had eloped with my old buddy Winfred May, who has become a millionnaire plaster foreman, and I was told this afternoon that they are still honeymooning in Las Vegas, where old Charlie Bush is mayor. Winfred left his trustworthy partners, Billy Allen and Edward Brooks, in charge of their growning company. While speaking of companies, the newest boom industry in Bainbridge is the I. G. P. Ad- vertising Company, with Iean Adams, Gretchen Gause and Pat Hall as its executives. Minor members of the staff are Iulia Taliaferro, Phillis Powell, and Delores Clenney. What is the latest on those famous million naire hunters, Bruce Woodbury, Melvin March ant, and Frank Battles? The last I heard they had just returned from an elephant safari in Africa. As you probably know, the wide awake scholar of the group, Mel vin recently published his book, The Elephant and I.
