i C prof ec? ea , if' ,yi ii Gi Dear Diary, In the late afternoon I sit on the portico of my house and think of the day's events. This morning in my newspaper the headlines glared: JESSE JOHNSON ESCAPES FROM SING SING l Iwas not surprised for he had made several attempts at it. His brother, Lester, who is a law- yer, helped convict him. I went to Christian Gulager, Mart Miller, and Alvin Mashburn's truck farm and priced some tomatoes. They wanted too much for them. Ireceived a letter from Ida Belle Burnette and Mary Jane Huddleston saying that they had been ac- cepted intova transcontinental airline route as hostesses. While walking down 5th Avenue, I heard some boisterous giggling and almost raglinto Patricia Wal- ters, Vonta Helton, Eva Mae Thompson and Rosemary Kirkwood. They were just leavi g the theater after a successful matinee in which they played major roles. While in a tea shop, I overheard someone say that Mary Lou Hutchison was expected to run for gov- ernor. She lost the first time. I met Wanna Faye Ballinger and Winnie Tadlock at lunch time coming out of the Empire State Build- ing where they work as stenographers. CGood looking bosses, tooll Ireceived invitations to Mary Frances Carter's wedding, Isabel Keith's wedding and to Fledelle- Jones's recital at Town Hall. I accepted none of them, for I was too busy. Dr. Maxene Cross was made professor of biology in Columbia University, so I sent her a telegram of congratulations. I forgot to see who was winning in the campaign for senator from Idaho. It will be a close race be- cause Lennox Tuell and Forrest Rutherford are up for it. I The lociety column mentioned the return of the Misses Carol Matthews and Katie Taylor from a vis- it in Mexb. President Orbin announced the appointment of Roy Panell to the Department of Agriculture and Robert Westlake as Postmaster General. Mr. Westlake replaces Mr. Chester Thompson who resigned be- cause of ill health. The Joneses really made news lately! Miss Ella Jones won the Olympic Championship for the 100 yard dash and Miss Georgia Jones recently set up a college for underprivileged girls. Two young ladies called on me this afternoon. They were from the Salvation Army. Miss Pearl Combs and Miss Fannie Hudson asked me to donate S500 to their cause. I was horrified! 'Ihe famous tight-rope walkers, Cora Ann Danielson, Wanda Fallen and Aleen Dye are billed to ap- pear in Madison Square Garden tomorrow night. Vera and Rothel Watkins have a joint ownership of the Stork Club and Rothel's wife directs the or- chesta. -i Mrs. Gerald Stepp, the former Marie Eastham, and her husband are operating a Hotel in Reno. Miss Margaret Lackey, the sponsor of the Senior class way back. in 1946, is now the principal of Bag- ley Training School. She sent a telegram to let me know of her appointment. Tonight I hope to find time to go see the famous dance team Etha Yount and Frances Frisby. They are appearing at the Stork Club. I wonder if the Senior Class of Bagley of 1946 would recognize me as Asena Collins when I make my debut tonight at the Metropolitan Opera.
