M sucol Hughlnghls Thrs year the Musxc Department reached tts hrghest peak rn playrng abrlrty and rn number We started our year w1th the appearance of the marchmg band at the Guthrre County Farr Along w1th the other schools rn the county we gave a marchmg and playrng performance 1n front of the grandstand Followrng thrs the marchmg band made performances at the Menlo Casey and Lohrvrlle football games Along w1th the seven other schools rn the Trr County Assocratron, our band gave a frne marchtng and formatron performance at Rrppey last fall Through out the season the band was very capably led by our drum major Lrla Laughery After thrs our band went to Bayard to celebrate the completron of pavement between Bagley and Bayard A recordrng was made of our band along w1th a speech by the governor for rebroadcast When basketball started our pep band played at all home basketball games and at pep meetrngs Both the concert band and glee clubs played and sang at the Guthrre County Muslc Festrval held rn Guthrre Center November 24 The musrcal hrghlrght came at Chrrstmas when the hrgh school chorus sang The Infant Jesus wrrtten by W1ll1am Strckles Grade actors presented a tableau deprctrng the natrvrty whrle spot lrghts were used to grve a very rnterestrng effect along w1th the Brblrcal scenery The grade students also gave a program entrtled A Merry Chrrstmas to the World 1n whxch chrldren from forergn lands vrsrted Amerrca At Prelrmmary Musrc Contest held rn Panora March 27 and 28 our group entrres rated qurte well Those recervrng h1ghest honors 1n the form of I ratlngs were Grace Gardner Tuba Solo Carson Grrffrth Tenor Solo Ardts Morrrs Clarrnet Solo Grrls Sextet Mrxed Double Quartet and Paul Vreltorf Alto Saxophone Solo Revervrng ll ratrngs were: Grace Gardner Plano Solo Male Quartet Harrrs Hoyt Barrtone Vorce Solo and the Clarrnet Quartet Dtvrsron Ill ratrngs went to Larry Holmes BAHIOIIC Horn Solo and Ruth Dahl Clarrnet Solo All entnes who recexved I ratrngs at prelrmrnary contest partrcrpated rn the State Musrc Contest held Aprrl 24 and 25 rn Perry Our concert band both glee clubs and mrxed chorus partrcrpated rn the large group musrc contest held May 2 rn Gowrre Results from these two events were not avarlable at the trme thrs book was wrrtten However, last years results recerved at large group contest were qurte sattsfactory The band recerved a Drvrsron I The Tr1 County Musrc Festrval was held at the Jamarca Gym on Aprrl 10 The schools takmg part rn the festrval were Bagley Cooper Dawson Iamatca Lrnden Rtppey Wash rngton Twp and Yale Durrng the year small srngrng groups sang for several groups banquets church and church groups and at other occasrons A German Band was started thrs year It's members were Drck Wallace, Max Cornrsh Harrrs Hoyt John Mobley Larry Holmes and Grace Gardner It also played for varrous organrzatrons through out the year Thls year the mustc department had three bands They were begrnners band Junror band and senror band There were seventy members rn all three bands combrned Thrs was the largest and best group thrs school has had rn recent hrstory Our glee clubs were also the largest on record We had a 19 member boys glee club and a 34 member grrls glee club makrng a 53 member mrxed chorus The musxc department and Mr Clague feel qurte proud of the very ftne showrng the varrous groups have made thrs year 38 U . . 1 . . l ' 1 1 I . - 1 .. . 0 ' I 1 1 . 0 . . . , . ,, I ,, . .. . . . , . 1 ' Q ' R ' 1 1 . 1 1 Q I , 1 , 1 , 1 1 I . . , 1 5 , I . , S , . . 1 1 ' 1 . .
