I will tell you about us kids And how we put our teachers on the skidsg Some of us you know and probably others that you do not But l'l1 introduce them to show you what we got. jo Radebaugh is first on our list, There's seldom a question she'll never miss: She is hearty and makes lots of noise, And what's more she likes all the boys. And then there is Charlotte Bullock the queen of the town, All she can do is look at Squires and frown: And George told her he was getting a jeep And Charlotte grabbed him with a bound and a leap. And then there's a boy jim Jackson by description Who by the life he leads is stranger than fiction: He tells his mom he's going to shoot squirrels, Instead he fools her and takes out the girls. And Norma Luxford an addition so sear Came from Coon Rapids, just 13 miles from here. Boys don't interest her I've been told with a sigh, But the Bagley boys don't give up without a try. Joanne Finley is a girl that lives on a farm She came to school one morning with dirt on her arm. She loves to cause the teachers toil And it is really funny to see them boil. Lois Grassmeier is the star of our team But in classes you see she likes to dream: In Physics she has quite a spell And even tells the teacher to go to 'we1l. Marylee O'Connell is quite interested in a town 6 miles east But one day her mother said this foolish thing must cease. So now the jamaica boys come to our fair city To sing Marylee a cute little ditty. Darold Fitz is the last member of our force Lit a firecracker in school one day as a matter of course And when it went off with a loud roar He lit out like a rabbit and really tore. Now this is the class that really is good The only trouble is they are not understood. CLASS HIS TORY September 1, 1936 was an exciting day for twelve frightened little children, who then began their school days in good old B. H. S. They were: jim Ander- son, Charlotte Bullock, Phyllis Cornelius, june Cramer, Lois Duncan, Loren Edwards, Bobby Logsdon, Donald Myers, Marylee O'Connell, Marion Rushton, Ronald Smith, and Elwood Thomas. Mildred Long and Darold Fitz. joined our class in the second grade and El' wood Thomas moved away. Our class number increased to sixteen in the third grade. The new mem' bers were: Mary Ayers, jean Derry, Earl Myers, Lois Grassmeier, and Bobby Logsdone moved away. In the fourth grade we added two more new members. Colleen Ellett and Betty Kiner. Mildred Long moved to Bayard. In the fifth grade we had eighteen members. Grace Clark and Loyd Huston started and Earl Myers dropped out. Our class started to decrease in the sixth grade. jo Radebaugh was our only new member. Marion Rushton, Loren Edwards, Mary Ayers, Colleen Ellett, and Betty Kiner all moved away. jim Anderson, Phyllis Cornelius, Lois Duncan, Donald Myers, Leon Pierce, and Gordon Behrens dropped out in the seventh grade. and we had no new mem' bers. Joanne Finley, Marcella Dresback, and Mervin Cornelius joined our class of ten in eighth grade. In 1944 fifteen green, awkward freshmen entered the assembly and made a wild dive for the back seats. We added three more new members: Lorraine Bilbrey, jim jackson, and Dick Taylor. Mervin Cornelius moved to Dennison. As usual we were initiated, we all proved to be good sports. A year passed by and we were sophomores. Grace Clark moved and Hale Collins started in our class. Our classmate, Loyd Huston passed away in August of' 1946. He joined our class in the fifth grade and had had many friends. We shall always remember him as a very popular student and a good athlete. We entered our junior year minus three more of our members: Lorraine Bilbrey, Dick Taylor, and Ronald Smith. Now as seniors, we have only a small class of nine. Six girls are on the basketball team, and the two boys are on the baseball, football, and basketball teams. Norma Luxfordjoined our class this year. We lost Hale Collins, june Cramer, and Marcella Dresback, Only Charlotte Bullock and Marylee O'Connell have started and finished in Bagley Independent School. SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY While visiting in my old home town last week, I looked up all of my former classmates, It was quite surprising to learn of their new positions in life. Let me tell you about them. Due to the death of the late Charles Atlas, Darold Fitz has taken over his position, Perhaps you have seen his picture in magazines. Drop a card in the mail tomorrow for your muscle building instruction book. Every night I tune in to the Lucky Strike Program only hear Charlotte Bullock who has taken the place of F. E. Boone as auctioneer. She has gained world wide publicity as being the only woman auctioneer. Do you students remember the letter posted on the bulletin board? jean Derry took it to heart and went to Washington, D, C. to work for the F. B. I, She has proved herself satisfactory for she has taken the place of Miss Miller on the District Attorney Program. ljust heard the other day that Joanne Finley was married, and to Roger Davis of Perry, They are living on a farm near here and from all appearances seem to be very happy. A few weeks ago when I was visiting my aunt in Jamaica I met my former classmate Lois Grassmeier. She informed me she was teaching history and English in the high school there. We had a merry little chat about old times in high school. As I was looking through a newspaper the other day I came across an article about the famous orchestra leader, Herman Peabody, and his wife, who is the former Norma Luxford and also my classmate in school. I was astonished by the headlines in the Des Moines Tribune, Sally Rand has a new performer . It seemed an interesting topic so I continued reading only to find that jo Radebaugh has filled the position. And last but not least I must tell you about jim jackson. He is doing slightly different work than I expected. He is one of those traveling salesmen. I-Ie's been married for a couple of years to janet Safely. Of course, that's not so surprising-'after all he wasn't a wolf in high school for nothing. CLASS WlLl: We, the class of 1948 of Bagley High School, of the county of Guthrie, and of the State of Iowa, being of sound mind and body after four strenuous years, do hereby make, publish, and declare this as our last and best will and testa- ment on this 13th day of May in the year of our Lord, nineteen hundred and forty'eight. .HM IACKSQ-LI wills his job as hot lunch assistant to Harold Sellers. The above poem summarizes the feeling of emotional pride that every parent feels for his child as they start their first day of school. One September second, sixteen enthusiastic children entered our Kinder- garten. The enrollment has remained sixteen although we lost one and gained another. Here an attempt is made to give learning situations for education ap' propriate to the child's development, which will satisfy him in the present and will prepare him for the following years. The first grade of this school year exists because, of transfers, all beginners were registered in Kindergar- ten. Three children made up this group but one was soon lost by transfer. Mrs. Erps again greeted the children in this room. Mrs. Carrick is the second and third grade instructor. She came back into the school room this year to meet thirteen second grade pupils and ten third grade pupils. Mrs. Brady opened the fourth and fifth grade door to have thirteen fourth graders and twenty-two fifth grade students enter. Miss Kistler had twelve seats occupied in the sixth grade and, thirteen in the seventh grade. At the close of the school term the sixth grade had de' creased one, and the seventh had increased another. Many parties were enjoyed by each room. Each month brings along a new holiday to look forward to: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Valen- tine's day. Along with the season of the year it is a very common sight to see the boys and the girls trudging to school carrying various objects. In the fall are the footballs, in the spring it is baseballs. Bicycles are a common form of transportation to many of these youngsters. In the winter when the ground is covered with snow familiar sleds come down from the rusty hooks where they have hung all summer. Then arrives spring when the coats are thrown into a faraway corner and soon vacation time is here. X 1 C N X g v V N q ' 7 s - f 1 ,i , f f -' E I I , I Tyzzfiifii .. That night the largest high school carnival in several years was held. A large crowd attended and all enjoyed the varied entertainments. The boxing matches, the bingo stand, the cake walk and the high school skit. The Home Economics food stand was the center of activities for all people in this community like to eat. We all wish to express our thanks to the community for helping make our carnival a success. Senior Class Play A Ready Made Family a three act play was presented by the Senior Class on April 23. A widow Agnes Martyn meets an old sweetheart, Henry Turner who is a widower and they become engaged. Both have children: Henry Z and Agnes 3. When the children find out about the coming marriage they immediately set out to stop it. One has fits, another talks baby talk, one turns kleptomaniac, and another toys on her operation. Love finally wins out and all agree it is much better than the preceeding mad house. junior Class Play Antics of Andrew is when a giddy college youth persuades an uncle in Australia to lend him some money to support his imaginary wife and mother in'law, and when his, uncle comes to visit him unexpectedly, hoping to meet wifey and mother'in'1aw, anything can and does happen. Two friends Willie and Harold disguise themselves as his wife and mother'in'law. The uncle falls in love with the mother-in'law, and trys to marry her. When the pre- tenders are unmasked and find out that the uncle is also a practical joker all are surprised. May Day The long awaited day has arrived at last that concludes the school year. The elementary grades put on a program for the patrons and in honor oi the King and Queen and their attendants. B's were given to those who had par- ticipated in sports and other individual awards were also presented. The 194-8 King and Queen is Darold Fitz and Marylee O'Conne1l. Hot Lunch Program The Hot Lunch Program began the second day of the school year. The program is a very important part of the daily schedule. An average of 125 high school and elementary pupils take advantage of the opportunity to eat lunches at school. During the year approximately 22,000 lunches were pre' pared. Mrs. Hatfield and Mrs. O'Lena have carried the responsibility. At the beginning of the year tables were set in the halls. Improvements have been completed as time rolled by. Now the room used for manual arts is used as the cafeteria. This is roomy and light and provides for the needs for table space. Too, the manual arts departments have made four new cafeteria tables This has made an improved appearance and at the same time completed an essential requirement.
