The Bing Ding sometimes has work for a windmill too. The officially named Detach- ment Five of Helicopter Squadron One, the men of this Division are usually referred to as The Windmill Boys. Members of the Division are resigned to the good-natured heckling they receive. They know that Clementine, as the helicopter is affectionately called, can be worth her weight in gold. The safety record of VMF 323 left no opportunity for Clementine to dem- onstrate her air-sea-rescue ability while in the operating area. Administrative and utility work occupied her time. The man-hours saved in the transfer of personnel, U.S. Mail, and spare parts through the use of the windmill contraption was a small cog in the smooth running efficiency with which the Bing Ding performed her operational tasks.
