The 1963 football season was one that will be long remembered. The Badgers made a strong bid for the conference championship, but had to settle for ia second place ltie. The season ended with 5 wins and 3 losses in conferencestandings and 5 wins and 4 losses for the sea- son. Co-cap- tains were Tom 'Schinke and Joe Deignan, Tom Schinke was also elected this year's most valuable player by his team- mates. Senior halfback Tom Schinke and senior guard Joe Deig- nan were selected to the first team all-conference positions. Landing second team wall-conference berths were end Steve Robers and tackle Sam Young. Receiving honorable mention Were guard Russ Jaynes, quarterback Jim Hanny, tackle Den Weyrough, end Ed Gile, and fhalfback Joe Trimble. Coaches: Mr, Gerber and Mr, Morse Final season statistics showed that clo-Captain Joe Deig- nan led 'the Badger Squad with 70 tackles for the season. The second team all-conference Winner Sam Young was second to Deiignan in the final tabulations with 68. The underclassmen on the team showed great promise. With these bright expectations, the 1964 team will take over Where the 1963 'team left off. Page 94
